Normally wouldnt do this but seeing how we have quite a few people on this board from that area i figured i would post this here.

Looking like a Very Bad Icestorm. Some here could be without power for days as this Icestorm looks to rival last years Ice storm which hit the same areas from the PD2 event.

Some could see 1/2 or greater ice from this !

Either way i hope everyone is safe and well stocked down that way. Let us know what happens.

Thanks.

Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, Scott (us) and Mississippi Counties in Southeast MO also have a winter weather advisory until 6:55 am, from NWS.

Rain turning into ice likely...all precautions are being geared up as I type this. Sand trucks already being seen on major thoroughfares (Main N-S, Malone E-W, Kingshighway N-S and Ingram N-S). I don't know about I-55 N-S yet, but we are bracing for it.

Gonna be a rough day for some.......

Ice storms are probably one of the worst winter storms you could get. We've had them here before and they really wreak havoc on power, phone, trees, anything that they can get ahold of. Please be safe. We'll be hoping and praying for the best.

We're due to get up to 18" of snow between now and tomorrow night. North Dakota has the storm system hovering over its borders now and it appears to be moving slowly this direction.

Well, my family got up at 8 a.m. today and ground is dry. They think I've been making this storm up!!! Right now, 9:23 a.m., they're making all sorts of plans for the day. We'll see about that!

But the facts:

____________________

Winter Storm Warning in place until 11 p.m. tonight for my county and many in N. KY, S. OH, and S. IN. So this storm is coming, it's just taking it's good old time getting here. Here's the wx statement for Cincy on wxunderground's site:

... Winter Storm Warning in effect today and tonight...

Snow will spread into the area this morning. The snow will mix with sleet and freezing rain in the afternoon... and change to freezing rain in the evening. Snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches can be expected by the afternoon. Significant ice accumulation of a quarter inch or more is possible Sunday evening into the overnight hours.

I'll keep you all posted. Don't you just love it when your family thinks you're nuts?!!! You should hear them....I said no to an overnight last night for one daughter, I'd have to manuever many hills just to pick her up today. She's still sleeping in, can hear her comments later.....I could have stayed at Katie's MOM!

Good luck Miss Mary with the storm AND your daughter!

I'd take snow ANY DAY over ice. It is just too dangerous no matter where you are. Being at home can be just as hazardous because of power outages, etc.

As stated by the others here, please check in when you can!

No storm here yet; however temps well below 0 (it was -29F at the airport today) are being blamed for two deaths on Interstate 81 near Syracuse. The odd thind is, they happened within 200 feet of each other and both occured within the last 48 hours. Both cars went over a guardrail and fell approx. 50 feet, one landing on its roof, and both killed the drivers. :(

I'm here...snow right now, but ice is expected late this afternoon...it will take the form of first sleet pellets then freezing rain.

Spoke to my grandmother just a few minutes ago and they said they had about 1/2 an inch of ice. Not as bad as last year's ice storm. But still bad enough that they're staying in. The roads are too bad to drive on in the 'burbs.

It's pretty nasty here right now, I have around
4 inches of snow and it's still snowing hard. Looks like
we're to expect sleet and ice accumulations this evening
and overnight. Did you try out the snowblower Mary ?

Miss Mary checking in - 4 inches here and now ice. Snow for now has stopped. It was coming down hard for a long time! Between 1:30 and 4, the roads became slick over here and snowcovered, even though they were previously treated. My one daughter had to volunteer at church for a women's tea and yes, it went on as planned. Couldn't believe it didn't cancel, but they had several speakers scheduled that would have been difficult to reschedule. When I dropped her off at 1:30 you could see pavement. At 4, all snow and slick. And now ice.....what a day!!! My girls are hoping for a snowday tomorrow. We'll see. Heard the ice accumulation was really bad down near Lexington but it started up here about an hour ago.

Yes, Steve we're using the snowblower! First time in about 4 or so winters! So glad I got it serviced now, that bill of $40 was well worth it.

One local channel, Ch. 12, had a Met out here doing live reports. We passed her several times to and from church this afternoon, felt so bad for her - it was blowing hard then.

Well, back to dinner, making a huge pot of vegetable soup tonight.

Hopefully TLC will check in soon. Maybe even polarbear?

Glad your snowblower worked good Mary, I used mine
for about an hour tonight. I saw Angelique Frame's reports
from Anderson and thought of you Mary, those channel 12 Mets
had a long day.

Have a good Monday, Steve

Here's a front page article from today's Cincinnati Enquirer, for anyone interested (maybe Eric?!!!):

Snow, ice snarl traffic; some schools out today

By Liz Oakes
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Rain and rising temperatures today may clear away remains of a winter storm that dumped up to 6 inches of snow on the Tristate Sunday, sending motorists into a tailspin.

Diane Watkins, assistant superintendent of traffic and road operations for Cincinnati, said main streets should be "passable" this morning - unless additional snow or ice hits. "We anticipate at least getting people into the city in the morning."

Cincinnati Public Schools gave its 40,000 students the day off, and other districts announced delays and were waiting to see if roads would be clear.

The storm shut down part of Interstate 75 and other roadways, left scores stranded at the local airport, canceled events and closed shopping centers. Dozens of accidents were reported.

Covington police described the I-75 cut in the hill as "impassable" after deciding at 4:30 p.m. to close the stretch from the 12th Street exit to Kyles Lane in Kenton County. It reopened by 6 p.m.

District 3 police in Cincinnati also shut Queen City Avenue and Lafeuille in Westwood after numerous cars got stuck on the hill.

At least a dozen communities in Ohio and Kentucky declared a "snow emergency." Butler County and Kenton County declared a Level 2 emergency, asking people to drive only when necessary.

In Franklin County, roads were closed to all but emergency vehicles.

As of 5 p.m., Delta Air Lines had canceled 31 flights out of Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, and nine other flights delayed takeoff for up to 90 minutes, said spokeswoman Jenny Dervin.

She said she had no number on how many incoming flights were canceled or delayed.

Dervin said Delta officials were expecting operations to return to normal by this morning.

Northgate Mall was closed by 5 p.m., and Turfway Park in Florence canceled live racing.

The weather was a mixed blessing for business at the Holiday Inn Express near I-75 in Fort Mitchell.

"We did have more walk-ins," said Sam Kumar, who was manning the front desk. "It's been a little more than normal."

But for some hoops fans, snow was no deterrent.

Xavier University officials said they didn't even consider canceling Sunday's game. With 10,013 people in attendance at the Cintas Center in Evanston, the game drew one of the largest crowds of the season.

But the Musketeers still lost, 53-44, to Richmond.

Salt crews tried to prepare by pretreating roads Saturday afternoon after forecasters warned a snowstorm would hit.

Twelve hours before the first flakes began to fall, 52 drivers were called in at midnight to start pouring salt on the pavement, said Greg Ayers, assistant supervisor of public service operations.

At 5:30 a.m., 31 Ohio Department of Transportation crews were salting interstate highways.

By 10 a.m., the crews working 12-hour shifts already had laid 200 to 250 tons of salt on the city's 1,700 miles of streets.

Snow is expected to return late today into Tuesday, as colder air moves back into the region.

Today, the temperature is expected to reach the high 30s with rain beginning mid-morning.

Robin Gerhardt, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service, said most of the ice and snow should be gone Tuesday.
