They just get faster and faster!
WE'VE KNOWN ABOUT the Intel Pentium Xeon running at 3.06GHz and having a 512K L2 and a 533MHz cache for so long that a few weeks ago we even reported there was a shortage of it.
Well, there was. And that's because it hadn't yet launched.
But now it has, and Intel has launched two 3GHz+ varieties, one using the 533MHz system bus and one using the 400MHz system bus, Intel confirmed.
The chip will drop into the 7501 or 7505 chipsets at 3.06GHz, but the 3GHz Xeons can only drop into 7500 or Intel i860 chipsets.
The prices are $722 and $658 when you buy them in quantities of 1,000 and Intel sincerely hopes you do buy them in those quantities.
Now all we need is for Intel to do everything else it has promised ot do this week and our life will be relatively complete.
