Well, another New Years Day and I'm SURE there's quite a few *ahem* who over endulged in the Fruits of the Vine, that have a "slight headache, nauseous and tremors" this morning. Any good hangover recipes out there? NO....it's NOT for me

My hangover cure is always: Pepsi, pretzels, and ibuprophen. I do this when I first get up too. Forget the coffee, I want Pepsi!
Mind you, it's been years since I've had to do this. Years!!!!
Not! But not recently. I was a good girl last night.

The best cure I've found is to drink a large glass of water before you go to bed. Of course I forgot to do that last night, so I'm brewing my second pot of coffee right now.

Abstinence....lol
Actually, I normally wouldn't be saying that, but since I couldn't (or chose not to) indulge last night, no one should have...lol Just kidding.
I just had to get out of bed too dang early this morning to stay out last night and hang one on.
But I'll betcha one of them there Tamales would cure whatever ails ya, wouldn't you say Dennis....

Weatherluvr -- that's right. A large glass of water and TWO multi-vitamins. Guaranteed.
Got that from my buddies in the ER, although I've only had the chance to try it once myself since I don't drink much. It worked.
See, alcohol depletes your body of nutrients and it dehydrates you -- that's what causes a body to feel like crap the next day (hungover). Whenever trauma patients who were also a bit on the drunk side came into the ER, one fo the things we admininstered was an IV "rally pack" (also referred to as a "banana bag" like in the show "ER"). It's normal saline with injectable vitamins and thiamine added to it. The vitamins give it a yellow color (just like how it makes other fluids yellow

), thus the name "banana bag."
Secondly, do NOT take aspirin or acetaminophen with or shortly after drinking alcohol. Aspirin thins the blood and, for some reason with alcohol, that affect is increased. God forbid, should you have an accident, you'll hemorrhage more profusely -- not good. Acetaminophen and alcohol both wreak havoc on a liver, so it's just not a good combination. Did you know 12 regular strength Tylenol in one dose can be fatal -- shuts down the liver. Without medical treatment, a person will suffer and then die in about 3-5 days.
With the vitamins and water, you probably won't have a headache (unless you're just prone to non-drunkenness-related headaches anyway). But if you do need pain relief, take it the following morning.

I've also heard eating a peanut butter sandwich before retiring for the night helps absorb the alcohol.....probably a wifes tale.
Dennis
BTW ticka.....I wouldn't *think* about doing such a thing "LOL!"

RIGHT DENNIS!!
I've always heard that you need to drink alittle bit of what you were drinking the night before to help with the hangover (if you can even get it close to your lips).
I saw something on the news the other day where they were listing different remedies/suggestions for helping with a hangover. One is drink alot of water - you're dehydrated. Another is to eat toast (I think they said burnt too). That should help settle the stomach. They also mentioned drinking fruit juices. It almost sounds to me like you need to treat it like a stomach virus.
ACTUALLY, I'm surprised that I'm not hung-over. Instead on going to see "Master and Commander", we went to our frined's house up the street for a last minute get together. Marty and Ray have been buddies for a long time and have trained in karate together for almost 20 years. Laura had her wonderful margaritas available and we brought a bottle of saki to their house which we proceeded to finish.

Needless to say, I DID NOT see the ball come down in Times Square!!

This sounds really strange, I know, but I used to get home in the evening, (morning...lol) and drink some pickle juice. That always seemed to help me in the morning.
Also on the burnt toast, it sounds like it would work, since for drug overdoses, alcohol included, they inject charcoal of some sort into your stomach to absorb the toxins, stands to reason that burnt toast could do the same.

From what I understand, bread, pasta, and other starchy foods are good to eat BEFORE you start drinking, as they absorb a lot of the alcohol. Of course, this means it takes a lot longer to get tipsy.
Alcohol gets absorbed into the system very quickly, so I'm not sure how it would help after you drink, unless it has something to do with the body processing the starch into sugar, but...
Dammit Jim, I'm a weatherluvr, not a doctor!

Well, while we're on the pre-hungover tips, I have heard eating plain yogurt before you start an evening of drinking prevents a hangover. My sister-in-law was on a cruise in Italy a few years ago. Their tour guide gave them that tip. Apparently that's SOP over there, with all the wine they consume. Makes sense to me. It coats your GI track. Then I guess you can abuse the heck out of it? LOL

Eric - LOL! No Pina Colada's for me, no thank you. No I'll stick to my limit - 2 or 3 beers. With water or soda pop in between. Yes I've wised up in my old, uh hum older, age! A friend of mine and I call it pacing ourselves. You'll see me with a beer. Maybe another. Then a glass of Pepsi or Coke. She laughs once again - pacing? I say - yes of course! I can't drink like a fish!!! Maybe a guppie.....
