Ecstasy haul seized at Sydney Airport

Customs officers seized 23,500 ecstasy capsules weighing nearly seven kilograms in a single haul at Sydney Airport last week, it was revealed.

Federal Justice and Customs Minister Chris Ellison said the haul was discovered inside the luggage of two passengers arriving from Europe.

Mr Ellison said in a statement the haul had a street value of $1.6 million, and resulted in the charging of two middle-aged Polish nationals with importing a prohibited import.

The man and woman accused of ferrying the ecstasy to Australia have been ordered by a magistrate to appear before Central Local Court in Sydney on January 21, the minister's statement said.
