BOSTON, Massachusetts (CNN) -- The death toll from last week's nightclub fire in Rhode Island has reached 98 following the death of a patient at Boston's Shriners Hospital, a hospital spokesman said Sunday.
Kelly Viera was pronounced dead at 12:36. a.m. Saturday, said Richard Burgess, Shriners public relations director.
Viera was the second of the fire's victims to die in the hospital; 96 others perished the night of the fire, which was ignited by a heavy metal band's pyrotechnics display during a February 20 concert at The Station in West Warwick, Rhode Island.
Burning through soundproofing foam on the wall, the fire engulfed the wooden structure in less than three minutes, trapping many people who were unable to reach one of the club's emergency exits in time.
More than 180 people were injured in the blaze. Fifty-one people remained hospitalized in Rhode and Massachusetts on Sunday, 33 in critical condition.
The question of whether the band, Great White, had permission to set off the pyrotechnic display remains unanswered.
Through attorneys, club owners said they did not give permission to the band. Band members claimed they had permission.
A grand jury convened late last week and began taking testimony about the incident.
Very sad news!
