Russia will veto US resolution

Russia will join France in a veto to the new resolution saying that war is not an option.
But I say that the US will go to war without backing of the UN if they veto the resolution.

That is bad news for the U.S.! I know that they were hoping for abstentions from both nations. Bush is going to lead the coalition without the backing of the U.N., which is not favored by most Americans.

Yeah Garrett if the US goes without backing of the UN it will be a big problem for the US in terms of the relations with those countries and the credibility of the US will suffer but he will go anyway.

All is not lost....What Putin said was that he reserved the right to veto. Chirac is coming under increased pressure at home over the negative impact to US relations that would occur if France exercised it's veto. Russia is in much the same situation. A lot of the public statements are part of the doplomatic negotiating that goes on at times like these and we'll just have to see how it all plays out.

I have a different look at the situation with France and Russia. If the US goes ahead on it's own it will show just how powerless France and Germany (and the UN) really are. That will be a big loss of face for all three. I would imagine that in the end both will abstain rather then be seen as unable to stop the US.

that it would consider a veto as being a most unfriendly act towards the US that would result in permanent damage to relations between the two Countries. Most unfriendly act is diplomatese for hostile act.

A veto wouldn't happen until the proposal comes up for an official vote at the Security Council. If i remember right, the timeline for a vote would be in about a week and a half. That should be just about the time our troops in Turkey should be ready to move, assuming that Turkey approves that on Tuesday.

On the week of the 10th to the 14th the resolution will be voted after Hans Blix goes to the UN once again and report on march 7th.
