Is it just me or are the retailers, advertising companies etc pushing Christmas a *Little to hard, a Little too early* this year?? I mean, Thanksgiving COMES before Christmas, RIGHT? Like Furluvcats said in the Pot Belly thread, radio stations, tv commercials and virtually EVERY retailer on the planet is in FULL Christmas mode. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Christmas as much as anyone, probably more so BUT.....I LOVE Thanksgiving too! I know WalMart, KMart and Home Depot had their Christmas stuff WAY before Halloween and the SECOND Halloween was over, LOOK OUT...the Christmas BLITZ started

I think the new slogan should be:
Thanksgiving - the Forgotten Holiday!
The other day I saw turkey ornaments. I was tempted to get one because nearly everyone I know has xmas on their minds, not Thanksgiving. We could look at that turkey ornament and mutter - hey remember there was a holiday called Thanksgiving? Sad isn't it? Malls all decorated. Trees up in all the stores. Next we're going to see Santa at the Mall.....

Miss Mary - Santa has already arrived at one of our local malls here in SE Texas.
I like Thanksgiving its the only holiday were you gather with family and friends for good times and good food. I was going to put my Christmas stuff out early - but then realized we need to be "Thankful" for all we have first - then the times comes for celebrating Christmas.

Guess they're trying to telkl us to shop for presents earlier before December begins (That's when the malls are crowded).

Face it, except for the food industry, Thanksgiving is not a big retail holiday whereas Retailer's year-end numbers live and die with Christmas sales.

It's true Jara, but personally I do like Thanksgiving a lot. Probably because I have been with my wife's family every year for the past 10 years on Thanksgiving - and the people, as well as the meal, are fantastic.

Yep.. I agree.. the big money is in X-mas and that can make or break a retailer:):):)

What was it Ozzy Osbourne said? He does not celebrate Christmas in December because he feels it is too commercialized. He is right IMO.
The only recognition Thanksgiving gets these days is the sale the day AFTER Thanksgiving.
I always put out fall decor for Thanksgiving right along with my bales of pine straw.

gosh guys now i feel guilty. yes i have decorated for xmas, but for me and family thanksgiving is a time to give thank for all family and friends , and all. this is a time we all get together and have fun as a family talking and disagreeing ( this i like i have 4 brothers) telling jokes. linda christmas is to commercialized. but it the time of year to give and rejoice. we try every year to help at least one family with kids. this is where my joy comes from .

Some of our stores had Christmas items out right next to the Halloween goodies. Unbelievable!!!

I've seen Christmas stuff up in the stores since Halloween too. I don't think that Thanksgiving will ever become an "after-thought", but when you think about it, it's kind of sad that the Thanksgiving Day parades actually end with Santa coming to town!

Christmas commercials have started and Christmas decorations have been put out in the stores in early to mid November for several years now. It is just before Halloween that is earlier.
