A letter from a German supporter

#1 Postby mf_dolphin » Tue Feb 25, 2003 11:11 am

Streetsoldier sne me this and asked that I post it for him...

mf_dolphin, this is a "must-read" for those on the boards who are wondering about the Germans and their government (which seem to be two very separate and distinct bodies entirely). The spelling is Dietrich's own, but I hope the message is clear enough.

This letter comes from Dietrich Seeck, who graduated from Willy (German Naval Academy at Wilhelmshaven) early sixties then on to Luke AFB where he was the Top Gun in 104's. He flew them in the German Navy (yes, 104s in the Navy), went through the Empire Test School then was a test pilot on many aircraft including the Tornado for MBB (now EADs). He and his wife are really pissed and wrote the embedded letter. This is the best I've heard from Germany since the "We Stand By You" banner and the manning of the rails by the German destroyer FGS Lutjens.

My dear American friends,

Today we are seeing world wide demonstrations against a war in Iraque. What I have not seen so far: A single banner saying:
____________ SADDAM COOPERATE OR GO TO HELL! _______________
The main heading of the demos seems to be against the Americans or at least against your Government. What a warped, perverted world! If you reduce the problem with Iraque simply to the alternative PEACE or WAR like our Government does - Social Democrates and Greens - you get the obvious answer: PEACE of course. Who in the civilized world is for WAR in general?
Why was the UN resolution 1441 issued unanimously by all Security Council members including Germany - except Syria I think - if there had not been evidence of "Weapons of mass destruction" having been left after the Weapons Inspectors were kicked out in 1998/99? Where are those weapons now, how were they destroyed, if at all? Not very many seem to be worried about not only a cruel Dictator but also a known murderer.
The success of the weapon inspections in the 90's were based on the informations by Saddam's sons-in-law who had fled from Iraque and were killed by him after their return. This score does not go to the inspectors!!! This wrong conclusion made by France, Russia, Germany and all the others could be fatal for us in the free world. Asking for more inspections with even more inspectors neglecting the necessary support by Saddam's regime is illusive. By the way, would there be any inspector in Iraque today - upon whom those above mentioned countries are counting - without the military buildup by the USA and others? What a UNION of HYPOCRITES!!!!
A possible result of this whole desaster troubles me even more:
I think there are powers who would like to drive a wedge between the USA and Europe. If you look back to the last 50 years or so, France and Russia never were America's best friends. Support by them for the USA was given only, when they saw a profit in it. I can't get rid of that feeling, that they see a great opportunity in the present situation to build a strong European Alliance.
Basically, I don't have anything against that, BUT NOT AT THE EXPENSE OF THE GROWN FRIENDSHIP between the USA and Germany after the 2nd WW. Our opportune and "no-matter-what-keeps-me-in-power" Government simply does'nt realize that at the end Germany will be sitting between all chairs! It is very hard to recognize to be ruled by such an irresponsible and shortsighted Government which came to power last fall by distracting from severe internal economical and financial problems with the statement on Market Places during the election campaign: NO WAR AGAINST THE IRAQUE NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS! Today you barely find someone who voted for them. The present poles have dropped
them down the drain! Or is all this about OIL? If so, I prefer this oil being somewhat controlled by the free world rather than by Saddam Hussein. After all sanctions have been lifted at the end of this process, what would he do with about 23 billion annual oil-dollars? Give it to his people or use it to gain control over the Arab peninsula? What an outlook!!!! What the hell the Russians are doing in Chetchenia without a UN mandate? O I
L ??? Who cares????
My dear friends, sorry I am bothering you with my thoughts, but I had to get rid of them before they explode in my head.
Shortly after 9/11 I assured you that we were with you. This has not changed. So I hope, that we are still wellcome being Germans - perhaps in June this year.
PEACE to all of us
Dietrich and Mohrle
