Police Turn Away People Waiting For Vouchers After Disturbance
LANCASTER, Texas -- Police turned people away Wednesday morning after a disturbance at a Lancaster recreation center.
Hundreds of north Texans have waited outside the center since Tuesday night to get a section 8 voucher.
Early Wednesday morning, about two dozen officers and sheriff's deputies had to stop people from rushing the door and skipping to the front of the line when the crowd swelled to 2,500 people.
Some pushed, yelled and shoved as people tried to jockey for a position in line.
The Lancaster waiting list had not been open for three years.
No arrests have been made.
Many in line will not be getting a voucher since there are more people than vouchers available.
