COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - Football -- winning football, especially -- is not supposed to be like this.
Where are the tackling dummies, blocking sleds and space-age accessories to improve skills? Where are the assistant coaches screaming at mistakes, jumping in to improve techniques and criticize execution? Where is the buffet-like training table, the weight room, the strength and conditioning coaches?
Where is the inch-thick playbook, the daily film study, the two-hour practices held in secrecy? The trash talking, the end-zone celebrations? Where are the whistles, for Rockne's sake?
Ah, yes, this is Collegeville. A real-life Smallville where mild-mannered, self-effacing Clark Kent never changes into Supercoach. All he does is win.
