MENASHA — A 53-year-old Menasha man was stabbed to death and another man was in custody after an incident Thursday night.
Winnebago County Dist. Atty. Bill Lennon said 45-year-old George E. Marsh, 516 First St., is being held in the county jail pending an initial court appearance on Monday in connection with the 53-year-old man's death. The victim did not live in the residence.
"By Monday, we will decide what charges to bring in the case," Lennon said this morning.
Lt. Tim Styka of the Menasha Police Department said three men were interviewed after a fight that apparently started in Marsh's apartment at about 8:30 p.m. Two of the men were released, he said.
"At this point, we believe we have interviewed all of the suspects in this incident," Styka said at 11:30 p.m. He said Winnebago County Coroner Barry Busby pronounced the victim, whose name is being withheld pending notification of relatives, dead at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah.
Marsh "did have a cut of some sort to his hand" as a result of an "altercation" with the deceased, Styka said. Marsh was treated at the hospital.
When asked if police were treating the incident as a homicide, Styka said, "We'll be looking into that."
Lennon said authorities executed a search warrant of Marsh's apartment about midnight, but declined to release the results of the search.
Neighbors said the dead man was found outside the back door of the residence near the bottom of a stairwell. Paramedics attempted to revive him.
Lt. Chuck Sahr said the victim did not have a pulse and was not breathing when he was transported to the hospital. Sahr said the man suffered at least one knife wound to the upper torso.
