ILLITERATE? WRITE FOR FREE HELP: The government of Ireland has offered compensation to every living victim of physical or sexual abuse at state-sponsored institutions from the 1920s to the 1980s. The Roman Catholic Church ran the institutions, such as orphanages and industrial schools, and as many as 150,000 victims are involved. The government expects to pay out about 1 billion euros (US$1.18 billion), though if every victim applied for compensation it would cost the government about 15 billion euros, more than 10 percent of the country's GDP. Why the big gap? Because so many of the children graduated from the institutions never learned to read, most of the victims don't even know about the reparations offer. (London Telegraph) ...Now that's thinking way in advance.
