Well it is his right to speak his believe about the war in favor of it or not and the same goes to Madonna and other hollywood people.

After "Hanoi Jane", I stopped listening to the Hollywood "glitterati"; and I see no reason to believe they have better information, or should have a "bully pulpit", any more than any other American citizen.

So they make movies or sing, and earn unimaginable riches in so doing...this gives them a status far above the "huddled masses"? Not in this "streetsoldier's" book.

They are Americans and have the right to voice their opinion but they are entertainers not the US government. So how much weight does their opinion hold----not much in my books.
They should stick to their acting and let the government run the country.
But like I said, this is America and that's just my opinion.

I think anyone's opinion, no matter what you do (or don't do) for a living carries as much weight as the next person.

AS MUCH, Stephanie, not more...

I don't see any of the major networks offering ME, or YOU, or any "average Joe" time on-air to present our particular viewpoints, do you?

These entertainers are using their money and fame shamelessly, and the public should take them to task for it...(where would they be if no one showed up for their movies, or their Nielsen ratings hit bottom?)

Yeah, because they are actors doesn't make their opinion more valuable in the least.

An actor is a person who can LIE really well, make us believe they are someone else, so that means I am supposed to give a flying rat's a#@ what they think politically? Do they really think we care? :o

Why would they use their own money if they are acting...just to blow it away? I wasn't suggesting either that their opinion carries more weight

The various parties use the opinions of average Joe's when the elections come.

Politicians use their money to get elected. Would that be wrong?

"quote" - rest my case-----they are actors.

Then I think we should all stick to our own fields, whatever they may be. Same logic right?

Yeah, because they are actors doesn't make their opinion more valuable in the least.

No - but do you think they really care about what you think politically?

Stephanie,
I am sticking within my own field. I am not on national television trying to persuade the country to go against the President of the United States of America. So why should Martin Sheen or anyone else for that matter? An opinion is one thing, forcing your opinion down our throats on television is another. We voted Mr. Bush in office, let him do his job. If Martin Sheen feels that strongly about political issues let him run for office. And run and run and run.

Anyone against President Bush might like to volunteer to be "human shields" for Iraq. Fellow Americans will love you for it.
How does that song go again, "the bombs bursting in air".

Opinions are like belly-buttons -

I know they don't care what I think. I'm not on TV boasting like my opinion is more valuable than yours, or his, or hers, etc. We all give our opinions on here and discuss them. That's where Martin Sheen should be; on a message board somewhere giving his opinion because it's not more important than your opinion or my opinion. IMHO

That's how I look at the political campaign ads. Opinions shoved down my throat.

If anyone here was able to afford "air-time" to voice their opinion, would you? People voice their opinions everyday in newspaper editorials, letters to their congressmen, etc.

I didn't vote President Bush in office.
