Well, got some kinda bad news from the sawbones today  I'm tellin' ya, this has been ONE HELLUVA year for me, if it's not one thing, it's another. Combing my hair last week I noticed a spot on my left temple area, turned out to be skin cancer......NOT the bad kind mind you! After vacation, I'm having it removed......."THEN" he also told me I have degenerative disc disease, no wonder my back kills me all time now.....too many years of cutting, lifting heavy meat boxes and sides of beef. AH WELL..........I can still set up in the morning in bed and Thank the Lord I have another day!

Oh Dennis - sorry to hear this dear friend! I personally have 5 friends who've all had beginning stages of skin cancer. Now they must wear 45 sunblock, year-round, and hats when going out in the sun. In fact their doctors said not to be out from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. if they can help it. My one friend loves to garden, she misses that. It is very treatable if caught early like this so I hope that makes you feel better.

But still I'm sure you're thinking - what next?

Sorry about the back too......let's hope 2004 is much better for you!

Hugs!!!

I'm so sorry Dennis....that's why I hate going to the doctor anymore.

Since I turned forty, all he wants is to discuss is what's wrong with me...my obesity, high blood pressure, hernia, asthma, etc. Heck, the only thing he seems to think is good about me anymore is my money :grrr:

Best of luck Dennis....I'll remember you in my prayers.

Thanks folks! Indeed Garrett....a positive attitude "IS" the best medicine, nothin' I have is life threating, the skin cancer is curable, the back problems can be slowed with calcium supplements and excerise so........no biggie!!!

I very seldom wear sunscreen and as you see, I'm paying the ulitmate price, you can bet your bippy I wear sunscreen NOW! I've always worn hats, actually ball caps, reckon it's time for the old fart wide brim, strawhats "LOL!" NOPE.......If'n I have to wear a wide brim hat, I'm wearing my Stetson!

LOL @ Jetmaxx, ain't it the truth, seems once you hit that 40 year old mark, it's ALL down hill "LOL!" Naaaa, just like a fine wine, you only get better, a little slower but better!

I'm sorry to hear that Dennis. I'm glad that the cancer is not the bad kind, but all the same it's still scary.

I always loved the sun, epsecially one I was younger. I used to use baby oil to get that deep dark tan. :o

Unfortunately now you've found golf and I'm sure that's not helping your back out either.

If I had to stay inside out of my garden because of the sun and my back, you may as well lock me up!

I hope that the calcium supplements help you out and by all means, get that skin cancer removed!!

Dennis, I hate to hear the news, but as usual you walk the talk and set an example for us all. Keep that attitude and you will live to a "ripe" old age!!! As always you are in my prayers. I'll just have to crank them up some more!!! As we all know PRAYER ALWAYS WORKS!!!

I understand that degenerative disc disease all too well. Difference between me and you is that I have not lost the weight like you have. That will be the greatest help in fighting the back probs.

And there ain't nothing wrong in dressing like an old fart as long as you don't act like one!!! I DON'T EVER WANT TO GROW UP!!! :D

Having the degenerative disc disorder for some time, I understand perfectly...as to a Stetson, I'd have to "pass". Big, "ten-gallon" hats make me look like a clapper in a bell! :o

Now, if anyone can tell me where I can get a "planter's hat" in grey or 'silver' fur felt, I'd appreciate. :D

I always swore up and down that "IF" I were to be diagnosed with cancer, I'd be damned if I let it get me down and that's just what I'm doing David, I'm NOT gonna let this slow me down, get me down in the dumps and cry "Oh God, WHY ME?" No Sir.....God put us here for a reason and my job, my time on this earth is NO WHERE NEAR being done. We all have a purpose in life and I know now what my purpose is, to spread the GOOD NEWS and I've not even begun!

Stephanie, ya know, actually....playing golf according to sawbones, is probably on the best forms of excercise I can get......as long as I "WALK" the 18 holes and not ride. Yes, it's a little painful at times but HEY.......I'm NOT gonna lay around and let this get me down!

Don't let cancer scare you to death folks.....because here's a true story..

My great-aunt Millie is 88 and has beaten cancer twice...uterine cancer at age 44 and bladder cancer at age 68. Has she slowed down any in her 80's? Not much...in fact, she recently got married (July 10th), after being widowed for over 24 years...to a hubby nine years her junior (he'll be 80 in January).

Cancer is scary but can be beaten....aunt Millie is living proof. :) :)

Dennis - wow many uplifting words of wisdom here!!!

Perry - your aunt is an inspiration to us all!!!

Stephanie - I used baby oil too! And knew girls who used Crisco.....can you believe that?

Finally you said it Perry....turning the 40 mark is downhill......let's see in my case all you know what broke loose! First my eyes went (suddenly couldn't read the phone book, menu's, vote, etc.), then my gray hair almost tripled overnight and well, as you all know, at age 43 I got colon cancer. By then I was like - what next? LOL! But I'm living proof, like your aunt Perry, cancer can be licked!

Dennis...as you and I have discussed...I can feel your pain..as well as my wife's. She also has degenerative disc disease, and has had an operation already to remove a bulging disc.

As far as the cancer goes...you hang in there and thank God its not the "bad" C. You have a positive attitude, and that's a battle you have to win!

Here's another goodie aobut the "Good" (all things relitive) skin cancer. My mom has/had it since shortly before my birth- 23 years ago (Yeah try looking up the cancer risk of someone who's mom had cancer while she wa in the womb. I wear a LOT of sunscreen! *grins*)

She's had it removed from her leg, her back (3 times) and her chest once. It crops up every few years but she's never had to have chemo/radiation because she's careful for looking for new spots- always finds them when they're small and easily treatable. She goes to the dermatologist and has her spots removed. It's an out patient proedure covered by insurance *grins*

The "GOOD" kind of skin cancer shoudln't mean much more than a few inconveniences and a lifetime of looking out for it *grins* So cheers!

Sorry about the disc thing though- no good cheer stories there.

Dennis sorry to hear about your back and of course the skin cancer. Praise the Lord though it is not "bad". I had a cancerous spot removed off my nose when I was still in high scool.. thankfully I have never had another one. My Mom always hounded me about sunscreen, so I hardly ever go in the sun without a 30spf and a hat.

your positive outlook is such an encouragement to me... Blessings to you friend :)

Yes, Dennis, your positive attitude is encouraging for us all. What your doctor said about the golf makes sense - you have to keep moving!

Miss Mary - I've heard of girls using Crisco as well! :o
