My daughter is in the finals

#1 Postby BreinLa » Sat Feb 15, 2003 8:11 pm

for a National Poetry Contest. She wrote this poem the first week of school for English Homework. Little did we know her teacher was gonna
enter it in a contest lol. Well a couple of weeks ago I got a call from the teacher telling me what she had done and a letter from the contest people asking us to approve of them publishing it in a Book called A Celebration of Young Poets She is 12 yrs old and this is exactly how she remembers 9/11/01. I thought I'd share it with all of you as I am a pretty proud Mom lol:

A Beautiful Day

It started out a beautiful day,
When neither wind nor rain was in our way.
The people of New York walked the streets,
But then their world came to a screech.
We went to school, and ended mass,
But a last minute announcement stopped our class.
A horrible event New York had seen,
2 planes, 2 buildings, what did this mean?
We turned on the news, and what we saw,
Were 2 flaming towers beginning to fall.
Our hearts then sank at that same time,
And prayed for our country, with all of our minds.
A year ago we cried our eyes,
But now we know to show our pride.

BreinLa, how perfectly beautiful in its simplicity and honesty! How very proud you must be! :D

Coppertop (my son-and-heir) also writes very well, but his genre reads like a "Mark Twain meets Stephen King in a back alley"; lots of highly detailed horror stories. :o

Congrats to both of you!
To your daughter for the talent she has in showing her wisdon and caring nature she has through her poetry.
And to you, Proud Mama, for bringing up such a fine young lady!
