i have a question for the christians on the board.

if the way into heaven is to simply accept jesus as the messiah then why are there so many variations of christianity?

also since the church of latter day saints accepts jesus as the messiah do they go to heaven? or are they heretics as i have heard them called on a number of occassions?

There's a lot of history there, and I only read one book on that topic. The short answer is that because imperfect (as we all are) people populated the church and leaders let politics and their own personal foibles interfere. Thow in pride, nationalism, power, and corruption, and you have it. That doesn't diminish the message though.
