Storm2k Member Information Center - Isabel 2003
The independent lady that she has become, Isabel will determine her own course during the upcoming week. She has stood proud and become one of the more classic and most photographed ladies of the sea.
While preparations rachet up along the east coast, it is time for us at Storm2k to make some preparation as well.
As the storm approaches, we will have all eyes on her path...listening, watching, waiting, preparing, and then reacting.
Storm2k is more than just a passive board. Those of us who have been here for a while already know that. The large influx of new members will soon learn that.
We are a group of concerned individuals who collectively care about many of those, any of those, who may be affected as Isabel makes her presence known.
So...I urge you to use this S2k Member Information Center post to keep us informed as best you can about your personal well-being and safety as she flexes her muscles this week.
The Tropics section is ideal for reports on details of the storm and recording the scientific elements that can be measured. Maps, charts, and more are prolific there. What a great resource it is!
But here...in the midst of friends around the country, those of you who may live along her path, please take a moment to stop in to report your personal status; your preparations and your personal observations....even your requests for thoughts and prayers on your behalf. They will be heard.
If, in the end, Isabel spares us all...this is also a great place to rejoice and be happy. We can celebrate together.
The MIC post - Isabel 2003 - is now open. 24 hours/7 days until Isabel is no longer.
Step on inside, share with others, and know there is tremendous power in the heart and soul of our Storm2k membership.

It appears that Isabel may have her sights on my location in central PA. Fortunately, this far inland, it will likely be just barrels of rain. Flooding is a possibility here. (Agnes '72, is our benchmark flood here) At our house we are behind a dike that withstood the '72 flood with a foot or two to spare. We are presently at the "kids saw it on tv and are worried and asking lots of questions" stage. We'll monitor the situation and if warranted, we'll have our bags packed and be ready to move to higher ground, hampsters, lizards, and dogs too.

My wife and I have begun some preparations. We live in Punxsutawney, PA. We don't want to be caught off guard. Her parents went through the flooding left behind from Agnes...and if this storm cuts across Central PA, as the models are showing currently, we could be in for some heavy rains and a little wind. Our power goes out with a blink of an eye, so we have gotten batteries and bottled water as well as plenty of non-perfishable foods. I hope all of you from North Carolina to New England stay safe. This is no time to take nature lightly. Stay safe everyone!

Hey guys, I just found out that I'll be weathering this one alone with my kids. Hubby got called into work, indefinitely. He's got 2 warehouses to secure, and I doubt seriously I'll see him again till this is over. We are in Baltimore,on the water, right off the Patapsco river, very close to the bay. We are getting mixed reports of how bad it will be, but if it's anything like Fran or Floyd, I will have water and lots of it. Finishing up the rest of my preparations and praying for the best here. Hoping that everyone will be ok.

Great thread skyman!!
Here in my corner of the world we are ready for whatever Izzy brings to our doorstep. We learned from Floyd that just because we are removed from the coast does not protect us from all that a hurricane has to offer. We have water, flashlights, batteries....okay..okay, I have all that stuff stockpiled since Y2K and 9/11 so for me it was a matter of just making sure that everything was still where I store it and update some things.
Keeping everyone covered in prayer!!
Blessings, Raine
PS:Balitmore girl...I should put my hubby in touch with you, usually I am the one at home weathering out the storms alone with the kiddies but this year he will be home as I have to be at the airport where I work....LOL...he'll need all the help and encouragement he can get!

Well, our preparations are finally done. We are just waiting now for Isabelle to show her ugly head around here. I think no one is taking this storm seriously around here except the authorities. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch already, and they might issue some sort of wind advisory tomorrow as they get more data in. We were back at the store last night picking up the rest of our needs, and I overheard people say..."this isn't going to be that bad", "its only a little rain...we've had rain all summer basically", "this hurricane isn't going to come to Western PA, I dont know why they are all getting their stockings bunched up over this". My wife and I couldnt believe what we over heard. We did what we had to and left. I am contemplating taking Friday off from work so I can be home. I know a few of the other employees are staying home Friday already. I have plenty of sick time and vacation time coming up...so I might wake up Friday morning "sick"
and just stay home and sit this one out. I've heard as much as 5 to 6 inches of rain could fall on this area. I've taken pretty good records of the weather this summer, and I can tell you this, 5 to 6 inches of rain is what we don't need, each of the last 2 or 3 months, the rainfall accumulations have increased, with over 8 inches of rain falling in August. Anyhow, I will be checking back in as we get closer along. Hope everyone else stays safe. Take care all!

Yeah, baltimoregirl, here's hoping that all goes well for you and your kids.
I'm thinking about taking Friday off too. Gotta keep an eye on the sump pump. TWC local forcast says heavy rain for about a 12-hour period, and a max of 30-something mph winds from Thurs morning thru Friday night.
