Galveston Gulf waters

I just need to brag (for lack of a better word) for a second. For those of you in the Hou/Galv area who have been to the beaches down here, you know that the water tends to be pretty murky. Well, I don't know if it's due to Fabian drawing all the muddy Mississippi water that's been flushed down into the GOM away from us and towards Florida's west coast (which tends to have gorgeous water) or what...but the water this weekend was clear as a bell.
I went to Jamaica Beach with some friends and a couple of them brought their kayak and snorkeling gear. I had to wonder why they brought the snorkeling gear, until I stepped into the water and realized I could see my feet...even when I was way out at neck-deep level. It was beautiful out there. There were schools of fish swimming around and plenty of "cabbage heads" (at least that what someone called the jellyfish we saw -- bluish-white globes with almost no visible tentacles). I had a blast venturing way out in the kayak -- just me and the waves. It was a gorgeous weekend to boot and I didn't get sunburned.
Now, if only some of the coast guard guys had a chance to get down there and search for a head...they probably could have found it with the water as clear at it was. (Referring to the Robert Durst murder case -- local news -- for those of you outside the area.)
Okay...braggage over.
