I finally got the courage to have lasik performed on my eyes! Off to the doc now. I'll "see" you later!

My wife had it done over 10 years ago. All went fine, no complications. Nothing to worry about.

That went so quickly! I was back home shortly after 1pm, took my sleeping pill and sleep all day. There's still some blurriness that i believe will go away with time and when they take out the contact lenses they put in.

I embarrassed my husband in the waiting room. They gave me my valium and after it took effect i would doze off and start snoring. And i was waking myself up with my snoring!

Lasik scares me, I'm too chicken to even wear contacts....there's three areas of my body that make me squirm just thinking about an injury there....one's private, and the others are my fingernails and my eyeballs! I also worry that down the line as my eyes change with age something might go horribly awry as a result of the surgery, although I guess that's just an unfounded fear of something that seems too good to be true.

I just bought me my first pair of "real" sunglasses!

I am curious about this surgery, and might have the army give me it, since it would "improve" my shooting. My right eye is 20/20, my left eye is 20/80...and I'm a southpaw! Would be nice too, since where I'm trying to get my license (Kentucky) you have to have vision of 20/40 or better in both eyes...so I'd have to wear glasses there, unlike in NC >>

And today i bought me my first "real" reading glasses! LOL

Good for you CajunMama!!!!! I would love to have that! I am scared about it but I would do it! Just will be years from now cause of the money$$$ Ive worn contacts for years....I hate glasses..and I cant live without my sunglasses!!! Born and raised in Florida Ive been wearing them since I was a babe...but I have to admit when I first got contacts they were a pain in the A$$!!! but i know how much money I would save if I had the surgery! I pay 60 bucks every 5-6 months so i can wear my sunglasses!!!! cause I hate wearing normal glasses...

I'm interested in this as well and have been for years. I have read though you should wait until your eyes become "stable" in terms of changing prescription.

How is your vision now? Do you notice it's been improved drastically and are enjoying the results?

Why did they put you on Valium? I've never heard of them doing that for this procedure...let alone give sleeping pills.

Big difference in how well i can see. Everything about a foot or 2 away was blurry. It's only been a week and a half and i only need reading glasses for up close (age progression). I was told before because of my age i would probably need the reading glasses. Lights are still blurry at night but hopefully that will get better with time. I can see things far away really good!

They give you valium to just calm you down. You're awake during the procedure and they need you calm and quiet. Then they want you to sleep after so that you don't rub your eyes (you have to wear plastic shields when you sleep for the first 3 nights) and damage them. They gave my husband valium when he did his eyes about 10 years ago.

I didn't think valium would be needed for one to be calm and quiet but maybe it's just there in case .

When you're laying there with a plastic thingy holding your eye open, looking up into a laser knowing your eye is going to be cut and then the doctor brushes this white plastic thingy across your eye...i don't think you're going to lay there without moving! They also deaden your eyes so you don't feel it either.

Heck, I'd already take my own valium BEFORE I got there!

When you say cut do you mean with a knife device first and then the laser corrects the eye or just the laser? I know when this first was possible they had to actually manually cut open the flap before the laser could correct the eye but I think it's now all done using the laser if I'm not mistaken. If it's the previous, then I can certainly see why valium is needed!
