Always a special day for me. Here are a couple of pics of my father working with the moon rocks/core samples taken from the Apollo Moon Missions in the Lunar Receiving Labs at JSC...

One of those days in life where you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing. I watched the moon landing at a friends house. They had a color TV, we didn't. Funny but the video sent back was in B&W. I also got to see the first stage of the Saturn V as they were being assembled. My friend's father worked for the subcontractor that was building the first stage at Michoud in New Orleans. President Johnson gave a speech about our plans to go to the Moon and fufill President Kennedy's vision of putting a man on the Moon by the end of the decade. The speech was given on the main assembly floor and all the booster were in various stages of completion. I though it was pretty cool to see the President and all those rockets at the same time......MGC

Mythbusters on Discovery Channel is showing their moon landing conspiracy show right now... interesting how much support they are getting from NASA to bust the myths...

When I went to Google, that image wasn't there...just the plain one but I did see TY's special image.
What time did they actually broadcast the moon landing on TV live? I keep hearing conflicting answers like 12:00 pm EDT, 8:00 pm EDT, and 3:00 am EDT.

I think it was the 3 am time, but don't hold me to it. I seem to remember it was very late at night, but that was 40 years ago.

Apollo 11 landed at 4:17 pm EDT and Armstrong's first step was around 10:26 pm EDT.

I've always had a hard time remembering the moon landing - perhaps because it took place at 10 p.m. ET and was pretty sleepy when it was announced...
What I do recall - while it was amazing to think of men on the moon (as opposed to men in the moon - LOL), what amazed most people (me, too) was the photo of Earth from Apollo 8 on Christmas Eve, 1968. As historians have noted, that was the very first time mankind did see the Earth as God had made it - that was a very humbling experience for everyone, and many felt it was God's Christmas gift to the world, at a time of great unrest in America and elsewhere:

P.S. I find it incredible that to this day there are some who still do not believe in the lunar landings - of course they believe in whatever Hollywood tells them, but they find reality hard to believe - that speaks for itself...
It's funny that none of them mention the hard fact that everyone did see these men go up the elevator and get into the Apollo capsule and lift off, and that everyone did see them drop out of the sky days later, unshaven and a bit woozy - gee, you'd think that'd convince them that at least they went someplace...

Yeah, it took them a while to get out. They claimed they were using the time to catch up on sleep, when in fact, they were using it to check over all the systems and make sure everything was working right so that Buzz could go walk on the moon with Armstrong.
Those Armstrong guys sure live up to their name!!!
