I didn't want to derail the what are you doing this weekend thread so i'll continue my bbq pit story here.
Short story...hubby wouldn't cover bbq pit the last 10 years and it fell apart on him this morning. Quite humorous to see it. Then he tried to rig it up and it fell apart some more. Off to lowe's we go looking for the pit i found online. Now he's got to assemble it.

I'm not helping him.
There sure are alot of gas grills compared to charcoal grills these days. I prefer charcoal/charred wood. To me you get a more bbqier taste. What do others pre

I use dried pecan and charcoal in a hot smoker. I think Char-Grill is the name. I just got this one new from Chinamart.....$89. Some assembly required.....hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!
You assembly everything. It's called flat stock. Ya know.....how do they get something this big in such a flat box?

LOL @ Cajun Mama's husband!!!!
I can just picture that scene.....sounds like a segment from the old TV show, Home Improvement. LOL
We have a gas grill.
Here's my beef with gas grills....pardon the pun. You can't find a modest or small sized one for home. Sure small ones for boat or tail gating. But ones you sit on your deck are just way too big. I hate that! We tried to find the smallest one and it's still 6 feet long! I wish the side shelves folded down too. So when not grilling, it would compact and fit into a corner of your deck. Not be the center of attention on the deck!

Mary, you should check out lowes. They had some that weren't long at all.
And yes, it did look like a scene from home improvement. Then it took 3 hours to grill the meat. We weren't sure how much charwood to put since the charcoal tray is so much closer to the grill. It was definitely a comedy of errors this afternoon. But the meat ended up great though we didn't eat much. We ended up munching on the side dishes and the banana pudding dessert while waiting for the meat.

Thought you were going to say, you ended up fixing.....
Grilled Cheese and soup!
LOL!
We fill up on sides too......we do eat meat but not as much as we used to, years ago. More and more it's probably 1/4th our total meal. If that!
Our grill is doing fine it's just that our old one was small. And I miss how small they used to be (I'm going back 25 years now.....). So now I always notice how "humongous" they are....LOL

I have a gas grill but use wood chips with it. I prefer charcoal but gas is easier for me.

I use gas because it is easy. But, charcoal is better tasting.

I might notice a difference if I tried both at the same time, but we have a gas grill and I love the taste of whatever we grill. I don't remember why we picked gas over charcoal, though.

Charcoal, charcoal, charcoal.
We briefly tried gas when we received a used one from a friend. The food was bland, cooked unevenly, and just a real pain. I would like to maybe try it again with maybe a nicer one with at least 4 burners, but would only use for hot dogs and burgers or when we are in a hurry.
We use our charcoal grill at least 3 times a weeks, in the summer sometimes the whole weeks meals are cooked on the grill. Tastes great, and healthy too. Its my favorite way to eat any kind of meat. Tomorrow we are having county ribs, and corn on the grill. We have a large Weber and you can grill as well as smoke on it. Rib roasts, briskets, chicken and turkey are all great smoked, (slow cooked with indirect heat)...........Im getting hungry talking about all this cooking. Can you tell who does all the grillin' at my house?
