It was wonderful yesterday... temperature hit 80* :D Today was about 73*, but temps are falling due to the presence of a cold front plowing its was through the area. Rather windy both days due to a sharp pressure gradient.

26 Apr I inprocessed at GMIAP-ARS (General Mitchell in Milwaukee). Due to my leave, I am not attending this weekends UTA (drill). However, my first drill is June 5-6 which is the same weekend that my brother is being unleashed on the world (crap...he's gradumacating from high school on 3 June!) I hope you guys are safe were you are.... However, I'd be worried if you lived around this area.

I hope I have my classes situated for the Summer and Fall... Believe me, I've been running around campus with my head cut off!

The first time I saw it was over at TWC when Dennis started the original PBS thread(pot belly stove) which evolved into the front porch thread when it became spring time. This was about 3 years ago now I think. Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

That is where I first saw it, too, David.

Pawlee - well I always thought the porch and stove topics evolved out of cyclone's "just saying hi" threads. He had to start JSH about 4 times, they were always getting sabatoged at TWC. A few times there, perhaps he wasn't even the one to restart them. What was funny was he started the first one as a way to still keep in touch with friends from the suddenly closed chat room. We all scattered and some didn't even post on TWC boards yet. We just lurked. His topic encouraged me to post more, most definitely. Cyclone travels a lot for his job and he had been out of town for a while. He came back and his original measly little JSH thread had many pages and many replies. He was very surprised it took off like it did. Of course we had trouble makers that thought it was silly. And they'd run up the post count with stupid replies. That's why it had to be restarted at least 3 times I can remember. At some point it seemed that everyone wanted a regular hang out thread, to just pop in and say hello. Dennis started the first one of the Porch/Stove topics. Forget which one came first though. He'll have more history for you on the subject but this is the way I see it. Cyclone's simple "just saying hi" thread brought many lurkers out of hiding and gave us former chatters a place to congregate again.

My first "Porch/PBS" thread was at TWC, created by Dennis. What a wonderful way to get to know people! :D

It's warming up again here in southern California. Highs could be near where they were last weekend and early this week by tomorrow and Monday. :o

Cool, I have that too, forget what the code for it is though.

It was sunny and warm here. Our high was 84 degrees. We could be near or just over 90 tomorrow and Monday. I got my fans ready!

Tomorrow I will be offline for part of the day at a friend's 33rd birthday party. Where I will be it'll CERTAINLY be in the mid 90s; so they said to bring swim trunks!

Hey everyone!! I just got home from an annual family reunion!! It was really nice but the rain was horrendous! It is good to see everyone all in the same place at the same time! There is just this feeling each year that it will be the last one for someone there. That has been the case for the last 3 years, my aunt, my grandfather and last year my great uncle passed. It gets sad when you think about not seeing one of them again. Bittersweet is what it is, you are happy to be together and sad because it could be the last time. We make the most out of it all though and it is worth every tear that is shed!
I am hoping you all are doing well and go tell someone that you love them NOW!! :)

Hi Sandi. Nice to see you around the PBS. :)

It has been a stormy day here, but now the clouds are clearing out and it looks to be a nice week ahead. Finals start Friday so after that I should be able to spend lots of quality time on the Front Porch.

Yes indeed, the Front Porch and Pot Belly Stove have evolved over the years...not as active here, I supposed, because the moderators allow off-topic discussion in other places. In the "old days" the SOTFP and PBS threads, along with the Just Saying Hi thread were the only places for many conversations...and Dennis is the one who should be credited with perpetuating them over the last few years.

About 96 here yesterday...heat is cranking up as we expect triple digits this week!

Have a good and safe first week of May

If it reached 96º here on the first couple days of May I would be off the front porch and crankin' the A/C!!

I thought I would drop off some lemonade for those who would like some.

Have a good day... even if it is Monday! ;)

A Temecula wildfire is buring profusely very near us, but far enough away that we will be safe. I posted the stories in the wild fire thread....

It was pretty scary coming off the highway lastnight/early this am, and seeing a mountain ablaze, it looked like it was right where we live! Scared us to death! We investigated it, and saw that it was far enough away that we were safe. Took some pictures, but our camera isn't the best and all you can see is total blackness with some orange blobs...For those of you with AOL, the front page Ca. Fire is a picture of the Temecula fire...

We were coming home from DISNEYLAND! YES! I finally got my season passes! It was my first trip to DisneyLand and it was soooo magical! After working at the Magic Kingdom in Orlando years ago, it was a thrill to see California's version. LOVED the park, both Disneyland and California Adventure Park! Got to see the beloved Electrical Light Parade...one of my favorite "vintage" Disney parades. We'll be going back often! Got a whole year to play in the park..woohooo

It did hit 100 again, so it was extremely hot...Even hotter today....heading out into the desert...wish us well!

Well, it is summertime in the city here! 100 degrees on my backyard thermometer, so this is the first of many more of those to come.

You probably won't believe this, but there IS a difference between HOT and INTENSELY HOT. I've come to the conclusion that up to 104 is HOT. 105 and higher is INTENSELY HOT according to my internal thermometer. And, of course, 110+ is crazy hot. I had an interview in a suit and tie when it was 114 back in 1997. Walking across a blacktop parking lot...I realized I must really like the desert to do this!!!

Had to cancel our scheduled long weekend in Colorado next week...Kathy can not get off work. The up-side is that we're headed out to see Emma and family on Thursday this week instead of Friday.

Hey Furry...get those fires under control before we get there!!!

Have a safe and enjoyable Tuesday everyone.

Steve,

bring an oxygen mask...the smoke is thick in these parts...

Let me know if you have time to stop and say hello...Sun-Mon we'll be at the DisneyLand Resort, other than that we'll be home...watching the smoke plumbes...

Enjoy the visit with Emma and Happy Mother's day to Kathy!
