My question is why are you going to get a Tetanus anyway? Unless you cut/stick yourself with something contaminated you don't need one.

Actually, everyone is supposed to get regular tetanus shots. The "rusty nail" thing is a myth. Tetanus can come from a variety of sources, so you can get it from any cut.
Hmmmmm, from working in the ER and the Orthopaedic Surgery Office for 27 years, that is not the thoughts of the doctors.......maybe things have changed and I haven't heard about it. And I did use the word "contaminated", i.e. cat bite (big time infection chance), dog bite, that kind of thing that could be contaminated would count, not just rusty nails. I just happened to step on a frazzling nail after Katrina, but anyone who had an open wound and waded through water or had scraped themselves on anything that had been under water had to be given a tetanus and all the First Responders and police officers/deputy sheriffs got them too, just in case, but other than that....they said it wasn't needed.

Since my son is transferring to MS State this year they had to get a copy of his "immunization record" which....awwww....was not in the papers I took with me when evacuating from Katrina for some reason, so had to try and "redo" one and the only thing they gave him at MS State was another MMR vaccine. And I know his latest Tetanus wasn't on there cause he got it at the hospital after a dog bite and stitches, so wasn't on his Pediatricians records or the health departments.
