Boiled Okra? YUCK...it's like having a SEVERE head cold and your sinuses drain down the back of your throat!! Now FRIED OKRA...you BET, I LOVE it!!

Brains and eggs? LOVE it...I also love "Rocky Mountain Oysters" :cheesy: The only "off alls" (inerads) that I cannot eat is Tripas De' Leche....small intestines, although, I had it once cooked over a fire outside served with FRESH homemade flour tortillas

Okra is probably the only vegetable I don't care for. And it's because it is so stringy - yuck!

I tell you all this - if anyone wants to lose weight just read the replies in this thread. I don't have an appetite anymore...LOL

Between Dennis' Coke and Peanuts thread and then this one -from boiled brains and eggs, to liver & onions (of which I did mention, sorry, he he) I think all I want is to crew gum! LOL For hours......

What to have to dinner? Mmmm, - nothing comes to mind (yet).....he he

Lima beans for me. I'll eat anything else, but there's just something evil about lima beans.

We were poor, so we ate what was on the table, whether we wanted it or not or we went hungry. My Mom is a good cook and still to this day will go by her house and stop and see what she has on the stove. And of course we always had either fresh homemade biscuits or cornbread with every meal, my Daddy insisted!

I actually love liver and onions, but not just anybody's liver and onions. My moms are delicious and Morrison's gives it a really good try but other places it's just plain nasty. Being from the south, you grow up with okra in all your vegetables...so I love Okra, anyway you cook it. My husband, being from New Orleans never had fried okra, he thought I was crazy the first time I cooked it. I told him, don't knock it till you try it, I will say that I did not get one piece of the first pan that I fried, he ate the entire thing while I was cooking the rest of the okra.....man that made me mad!

The only thing I would NOT eat was Salmon patties....talk about gross! I liked to eat Rutabagas (sp) but I would leave the house when she was cooking them, talk about stink!

My Mom would stretch one can of corned beef and feed 6 people...the same thing with a can of tuna or salmon (it wasn't hard on the salmon, I'd eat a mayonaise sandwich or a biscuit with syrup instead, thank you very much!)

Now, I'm hungry! All the things ya'll said you hate, I really like except the brains part....that is a gross and I don't think I would try those, that goes with the pickled pigs feet and the pig snouts I see in the grocery store...grosssssssssssssssssssssssss!!

There are so many ways to make meatloaf, that one of them has to be to your liking. My wife makes a great meatloaf. And I love brussle sprouts with a little butter and salt. But, I have to cut down my butter intake. I was pretty easy, I would eat everything. I am still that way to this day. Thus, my biggest problem. I got fat. But, I am doing better now. I lost some weight and continue to do so. I just have to walk away from the table.
My mother in law makes great liver and onions. And I love fried okra. But that is a treat for me that I eat rarely. Okra prepared any other way than fried is kind of tough for me. What I can't eat is badly prepared food. My friend invited me over for dinner and we had dried up chicken breasts. It was some diet recipie that she was trying. Blech. But, I ate a few bites and asked for some mayo.

Mary, we too, were poor...my mother was a wonderful cook too (except her meatloaf) but that was one on the only meals she could stretch out for 3-4 meals. A pound of burger, a pound of sausage and OATMEAL *BLECK* would make a HUGE meatloaf. *shutters at the thought and the smell*

Now pickled pigs feet, yeah, I have a problem with them....just knowing where those little piggys feet have been *bleeeeck*

MSRobi911 , sounds like you and I grew up eating the same stuff. I STILL love my mothers Salmon Patties though. Yes, Corn Bread or Biscuits, or BOTH, is a southern staple!!! Collard Greens, Fried Okra, I'll take all of it. My mother lives close to me and I should go there more often and eat but I am trying to keep what figure I have left. LOL!!!

Almost all veggies for me. I admit it, I am mostly carnivore.

However, some veggies did grow on me. Carrots, salads, and potatoes are foods I grew to like a lot as I grew older. I still can't eat broccoli, peas, or beans, though.

Mine..."Fried Bologna!" "BLEEEECK!" I can STILL taste it to this DAY! And of course my most favoritist....MEATLOAF. To this DAY I HATE meatloaf with a PASSION.

We went to a friends house one evening, I LOVE this woman, she is SO kewl but dam it if she didn't fix meatloaf! You know the movies where the kids fed the dog under the dining room table? WELL...that was ME that night, Diane would leave the table to check on something about every half hour and I would SHOVE the meatloaf down her dogs throat in a HURRY to get rid of it, SERIOUSLY!!! :ggreen:

I hated meatloaf too, but it was the onions that nearly made me barf. To this day, I still hate a dish with onions in the mix. Oddly, I don't mind fried onions or even on my burgers...but any other time? Forget it.

I also hated Cream of Wheat and tomato soup with a passion. Still won't touch those monstrosities, either. I never could get the dog to eat the cream of wheat (believe me, I tried!), so I figured if the dog was smart enough to avoid it, well, I should be too.

OTOH, I'm very much my grandmother's daughter, and I loved veggies, cornbread, all those Southern dishes (sans onions, of course.)

Way to go, Dennis. LOL!

And I'll have you know, Snowman, that my family can make the best fried okra on this side of the Mississippi River. Good stuff. :)

I loved liver and spam when I was growing up. Still like liver but wife hates it so we don't have it. Hate spam though.
My mom used to have stuff peppers and cabbage for dinner and I hated it. Peas were nasty too.

Ya'll are welcome to all the Salmon patties you can eat, just don't send any my way....YUK!

And a Fried Bologna sandwich isn't too bad, if your hungry!

I'll eat my grits and oatmeal, but you can keep the Cream of Wheat, it's just nasty to look at.

Oh and somebody is cooking their Meatloaf's the wrong way......My husband and son beg me to make Meatloaf cause they can't wait till the next day to eat a Meatloaf sandwich! Use the McCormick meatloaf mix and it's perfect. Or just add an egg, smashed up crackers, salt, pepper, and some Lea & Perrians....its perfect! I do put ketchup in and on it. You gotta take it out of the dish or drain the grease off or it does get nasty.

Mary

Maybe we should write a cook book :)

I went hungry many nights because I am extremly picky eater! I hate rice, all veggies except for corn and potatoes. Only eat lettuce the unhealthy way doused in Ranch dressing. Was forced to eat chicken spagetti one night, and threw up all over. Used to squish all my food in my napkin when my parents was not looking! It used to make my dad furious and sometimes I even got spanked with a belt because of my refusal to eat!

Unfortunately, I've never met too many foods I didn't like, whether forced to eat them or not!
But I still prefer fresh or frozen peasto mushy canned ones.

Lima beans, spaghetti squash, cooked spinach, and cooked green beans. . . . .

The lima beans were fed to the dog. Mom stopped cooking spaghetti squash after it exploded in the microwave (not enough holes poked in it). I told mom I rather eat fresh leafy spinach in a salad. The cooked green beans were placed in the fridge until they were cold -- I hate hot green beans.
