I went to the funeral yesterday. His station had 7 men leave for that call. Only one came back alive. That one (Art) spoke at the service. As did the Mayor and the Chief. Very touching and personal. The Patriot Riders were there. I have never seen them in person but what a great group of people they are. Never said a word to any mourner...held the red white and blue proud and were gone without a sound except that of their bikes firing up.
Very solemn to say the least.
I must admit I am a bit surprised about the "somewhat lack of posts" on this thread. We have a whole community who is mourning over the loss of 9 of our finest. I am not saying that it should be a "popular" thread by any means but I almost expected a bit more support from the S2K members. I know I have not been around here for awhile but I remember this being a place that supports it's own.
Not saying I personally need it by any means. On the contrary, my whole thoughts are with the families. But, someone gets a snake in their house and 3 pages come from it. A local tragedy here that makes national news and no one really has any thoughts on it? It just seems a bit odd to me.
It also really hit home for me as well and has made me re-evaluate my life again.
I am not begging for attention on this thread by any means. I would like to put this behind me and go about my life but unfortunately I keep thinking about my neighbor and his family as well as my neighbor across the street and his family as well.
Not a good time as a whole...

People deal with tragedy in different ways and some may not be able to express how they are feeling and therefore don't post. I'm sure many members felt sad about what happened. You are dealing with this on a more personal level than most of us are. When my nephew was injured in iraq and later died, i posted it in the mod lounge first. I was not ready to share with the rest of the board because it was too personal to me. (I'm sorry if i offend anyone with what i did). So please don't be upset with the "lack of posts".
The Patriot Riders are a great group of people. They were at my nephew's funeral. It was comforting to know they were there.

Re: Charleston firefighter deaths: Memorial service held
Very tragic situation that happened here locally last week and it affected me quite deeply as well ... I knew two of the 9 firefighters that died in the Sofa Super Store fire, and being from this area, shook the whole community extrememly hard ...
I went to school with Capt. Louis Mulkey in 1989-1990, and recently became acquintenced with Brandon Thompson just in the past year ...
The Charleston and surrounding communities responses have been outstanding WRT to setting up donation cans/etc. along with space normally used to advertise in-house specials are set up for memorials in just about every area business to help the families among other gestures to show that our firefighters will never be forgotten.
