Are you "pierced?"
Moderator: S2k Moderators
I was 13 when I had my ears pierced - one hole each. Still that way. When girls starting going to muliple holes in each ear, I said go for it, but that's not for me! So like you Linda, one in each is plenty for me. Besides I'm not your typical female - not into jewelry and wear minimal makeup. So one earring a month is what I usually wear. Other times, nothing. My kids do a double take when I wear earrings. After all these years, the holes are still there - he he. Karan - I'm proud of you getting your ears pierced later in life. My mom would like to do that but she's almost 80 now. At this point, she just wears clip-on. My Laura, full fledged tomboy, will never get hers pierced she says. I think someday she may but for now, when we walk past a little girl getting hers pierced at Claire's Laura just grimaces - ewwwww, LOL. When she has BD parties, I have to tell other moms - no earrings. Not many teens skip piercing. As for other piercings - well, again that's not for me, but I try to accept others if they're into that.

Same here, Chad.
I just don't see the sense in doing this stuff to the body temple. I mean, who in their right mind would pierce their tongue and stick a gold bob (or whatever) in it, for crying out loud? But then again, to each his own I guess...

I have two piercings in each ear, plus a cartilage piercing on the top of my ear. I have no desire to pierce anything else, lol. My best friend went through a fad when we were, oh 16 or so, and she pierced her tongue. Poor girl couldn't eat for weeks. She could barely talk. After much pleading by her parents, she finally removed the darn thing. Well, a little bribery too. They offered her $100 to remove it and needless to say, she did.

Ditto for me!
And, the only tatoos I'll ever have is the daily notes
that I write on my hands, in ink!
Annette...are you sure you didn't "breeze" through on those nursing school finals with the daily notes on hands technique? j/k lol

I bet you also find yourself having to replace pens pretty often. That's because the natural oils that your palms secrete get into the balls of the pens and stops them from writing.
Then there's the more serious issue of that ink finding its way into your bloodstream. You may be unwittingly slowly poisoning yourself.
Just a thought.

Debi (my wife, for those of you that didn't know) wrote a term paper on this subject.
Per tattoos, did you know that there are NO recognized hygenic standards for tattoo parlors, and licensing standards, IF your city has them, are "cursory" and require little more than a yearly payment...or, that the pigments used are usually foreign-made, and may contain poisonous chemicals; and that there are NO quality controls imposed on the manufacturers?
As to body-piercing, much the same applies...no standardization for licensing (IF your city/conuty/state has them at all), hygiene goes out the window, and in many cases the subject ends up in the hospital with bacterial infections?
Lesson? DON'T DO IT.

I had the very bad habit of using pens as my coffee stirrer, because I would always lose those little plastic stirrers they give you at the store. My employees loved working for me, except for, and I quote: "If I ever pick up a pen and try to write something and coffee gushes out again, I'm going to dump a full, hot cup in your lap!"

LOL, then, there's growing up with several chemical plants
about 15 miles away - helping my Daddy paint with lead paint,
when I was younger....being around the old mercury
thermometers when they broke...cigarette smoke in the air
during family gatherings.....hmmmmm....I ain't too worried
with the ink, my friend....
