Recently, I got a message in my bulk mail that reads:

Dear Yahoo Member,

Your e-mail account was used to send a huge amount of unsolicited spam messages during the recent week. If you could please take 5-10 minutes out of your online experience and confirm the attached document so you will not run into any future problems with the online service.

If you choose to ignore our request, you leave us no choice but to cancel your membership.

Virtually yours,
The Yahoo Support Team

It also has an attachment titled " account_info.zip".

Another message reads:

Dear user mbrstooge,

It has come to our attention that your Yahoo User Profile ( x ) records are out of date. For further details see the attached document.

Thank you for using Yahoo!
The Yahoo Support Team

...with an attachment titled "lsfksj.zip".

Eventhough there are no viruses detected, do you think I smell a rat?

Beyond doubt those are virus attachments. Don't know why your virus software isn't picking it up (maybe it's a new variant) but I've had almost identical messages in the past which did set off alarms.

There's no reason Yahoo would send out zip files - they don't do that.

I would go directly to http://www.yahoo.com and find out who to talk to. It sounds a little fishy to me. It could be a virus or spoof email trying to get personal information from you.

One thing is for sure... it is not from Yahoo, meaning it's not authentic. Whether it's a virus or just spam remains to be seen.
