Really, that seems strange to me.
We have the all along the High Street here being monitored by a private company who call the police if there is anything suspicious. I've had quick look and when it was installed they put in 24 cameras in the town centre in 2000 at a cost of around £1,000,000. I'm sure there are more cameras there now but I'm fine with that. (Note: The population here is about 80,000)

Here, it is permissible for private individuals and companies to spend the $$$ to do that if they wish; but, let it be done through Government auspices, and watch the courthouse lights blaze on far, far into the night.

No...we are potentiating our ability to incarcerate the (expletive unwritten)s, and by extension, get at their support systems, hideouts, funding, etc.
I'm not one to sit on his hands and do nothing...I want to be PRO-active, not RE-active.
I'm not sure you are seeing my point. I don't think we should "do nothing," either .....not by any means. But is there a limit, in your mind, to what we should give up in privacy and liberty in the name of safety?

What price "privacy" in the onslaught of terror, which would take ALL of our liberties, including privacy...and replace them with a latter-day Eastern satrapy?
I say use all the techniques we can...if it requires some self-restraint in the loss of "privacy" or any other cause celebre to get at the (expletive unwritten)s, let's DO IT. Ruthlessly.
