DVD Recorder help
Ugh... I've got a VCR/DVD recorder, have had it since right before Christmas. Sunday Night I was recording when the power surge hit(the recording was lost of course). I've had that happen before, but now when I try to record something to DVD it doesn't work. It acts like it's recording, you stop it, it builds the menu, but it will not playback at all. I have tried and tried with 4 separate things(just little 30 second to 1 minute stuff), and now I'm recording my shows strictly to VHS(which works) because I don't want them not to work either. Any ideas how to fix this??? It's not even 7 months old yet!!

I'm afraid that it could be any number of things, but the fact that it malfunctioned right after receiving a power surge is not a good sign. I don't know which manufacturer made your recorder, but I would imagine it is still under a one year warranty. Contact the store you bought it from and find out what their procedures are for this product. Also, in your documentation it should have a manufacturer customer support number. You could always give them a call.

Here's what strange...
the VCR works fine, the buttons work fine, the remote works fine, I don't get it, but I know it hasn't recorded and played back anything on DVD since. Everything recorded before Sunday Night comes up fine though...
I am stumped.
I'm going to unplug it for a few hours tomorrow and hope it resets.
It's an RCA from Wal-Mart... +R discs, $297. I still have the receipt in my drawer. Purchased 12/20/04.

Brent, I would take it back in and see about getting another one. Modern electronics are very susceptible to power spikes, and it is probably a circuit board problem...........Dave.

Aslkahuna wrote:What mode were you in? Was it +R or +RW? If the former, then try to finalize the disc which must be done after recording before you can play it. If that doesn't work then the best place for that disc is the circular file.
Steve
+RW the 1st time(that didn't work), +R did.
That's not it... unless it's something new. I've been able to play unfinalized +RW's recorded from MY OWN recorder since I got it...
Now you have to finalize it for another player.
