was no lifeguard in the area... the third time the
lifeguard was waiting for us on the beach...

on another occasion... a guy went under in a bayou
near the beach... I ran down the dock dove in and
searched for him... lifeguard followed me and after
about 20 minutes of searching... he had to go back...
I searched for another hour untill the coast guard got
there... coast guard divers jumped in and we found him.

I have witnessed 3 drownings... and saved 3 lives... I
know what i'm talking about... I have had to swim for
my life many many times... with no help from a lifeguard.

maybe you don't know what you're talking about...

:?:

First of all, what happened with the other three that you witnessed? Why didn't you help them?

Second, as for saving lives -- been there, done that, got the T-shirt. Whether it's a lifeguard, a surfer, or whoever, I'm sure the victim is thankful for the rescuer's ability and opportunity to save him or her. There are plenty of times when the first responder is a regular good Sam like yourself. No reason to dismiss the lifeguards though. They aren't superheroes. Sometimes they're simply not the first ones on the scene.

Relax. And let's not assume that others here don't know what we're talking about. That's not a very civil attitude and it was not appreciated.

If you are ever swimming at the beach and need help, at least you can rest assured that the lifeguard will swim farther than you can throw him to save you. Of course, after he hears your opinion of him, he would be justified to throw you back

I was implying that the life guards in Pensacola don't know any more
about sharks... where they are... what they do... thay you or I.

I don't know if you've spent muke time on the beach... but the lifeguards
I've met are mostly wanna-be's... (here on the gulf coast).

I have saved 3 lives in the open water...

Guess who brought that poor little girl to the beach... the one that died...
It was a surfer... while his surfer buddy paddled next to him kicking the
shark on the nose... lifeguard was working on his tan...

The only lifeguards i have ever met that are heros of mine are on the
North Shore od Hawaii.... Pensacola lifeguards are a joke...

My brother is a lifeguard at P'cola beach and takes the job very seriously, not for a sun tan.He pulls people from the water EVERYDAY.It's becuase of him and many of his partners vacationers are able to go back home ALIVE!

As for Saturday's tragedy, from what I hear she was probably swimming out of the lifeguards sight or in an area were there was no lifegaurd, away from the main beach.Because I've been out there before and there are lifeguards at that beach, they would've responded if it were in their sight.

no offence intended...
I do hope i'm around to help when
someone is in trouble...

as for the 3 that died.... I swam my ass
off... dove to the bottom... yelled for help...
couldn't find them... murky water. stayed
and did all I could... and then some. and then
tried again...

don't question my effort or ability.
I have spent way to many hours awake at
night wondering what I could have done
diffrent... anything diffrent to save just one
of the three...

Not questioning your ability at all. Just asking because you said "witnessed." Also, just making sure you were defining "drowning" correctly and I wanted to be sure I understood you correctly. I find that some people misuse the word "drowning" in the same way they misuse the word "electrocution." Both result in death. However, there are victims of "near-drownings" and "electric shock."

Don't question your ability? That's fair, none of us have enough facts to decide one way or another on your ability. Now, you practice what you preach, and don't question the ability of those whom you don't know, i.e. all lifeguards, and we'll be in business :D
