Right Place at the Right Time...

Ever been at the right place at the right time....

...won a free ticket. ...helped an injured person ...seen someone famous
...got someone out of a jam ...or whatever?

In 1970, as I began moving further and further toward the jungles of Vietnam, I overheard a conversation between a warrant officer and PFC.

"Can you type," the CWO asked the private? "Hell no," he replied.

Hearing the conversation, I stepped out of my usual "mind your own business self" and said, "Sir, excuse me sir. But did I understand that you were looking for someone who could type?"

"Yes soldier, I am. Can you?"

"Sir, blindfolded sir!" Show me a typewriter and I'll type words as you speak 'em while looking you right in the eye!"

Which I did. Which found me back in a Huey and flying back to a safer location where I spent the next 11 months. Yes, I got shot at, dodged mortar rounds and rockets, but I made it home.

All because I was in the right place at the right time.
