dan and tom didnt think their month long coverage of a minor prison incident was too long

Although imo the media tends to overdo EVERYTHING in the name of ratings, there is a difference between the Reagan story (which was relatively static ~ though it was covered non-stop for a week, nothing actually changed within the situation) and the Abu Ghraib scandal, which continues to evolve on a daily basis via leaked memos and pictures, new interviews, allegations and sworn statements. Timeliness is part of the essence of news, and I dont think it would have taken away from the respectful treatment the media gave Reagan's passing (which he much deserved, btw) to cut away from the casket-cam a little more often to update us on Iraq or the worsening situation in Saudi or other breaking news events.

I'm just curious how prison abuse (actually many incidents as came out in the trial) like this compares to putting panties on suspected murderers heads, stacking them up in pyramids, letting snarling barking dogs within (gasp) 6 inches of their face...

This statement is factually wrong in 2 important ways ....

First of all, according to the Taguba report , which was the result of an internal investigation by our own military, approximately 60% or more of the prisoners being held at Abu Ghraib were picked up in random community sweeps. International Red Cross reports which have been leaked to the media put the number higher, at 80-90%. These people were found to be of NO intelligence value whatsoever and were later released ~ these are the people we see going free in the continuing mass prison releases.
In other words, the majority of the prisoners weren't suspected murderers, they were just civilians in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Second, if you think the panties and the pyramids were the worst of the allegations, again, you need to reread the Taguba report. Prisoners were also beaten, raped and sodomized with foreign objects like broomhandles and light bulbs.
Now more than a handful of suspicious deaths are being looked at as results of this mistreatment. Future investigation reports will have more details on this aspect I assume. Either way, I don't think we would consider this a joke if it was happening to our soldiers.

Here's the complete Taguba report, for reference: http://www.npr.org/iraq/2004/prison_abuse_report.pdf

Yup, J. I still understand your point. :)

Unfortunately, Hollywoodians do that a lot. Heck, even "Blair Witch Project" was "based on a true story." LOL! ('shyeah...right!)
