I've thought about this very same scenario. What I can't quite figure out is why it hasn't happened yet??

But as you pointed out, a mall attack with woman and children targeted would have psychologically a devasting affect on this country since we ALL visit these places...we don't ALL work in skyscrapers.

i honestly think we have nothing to worry about here, soldier. the terrorists are brilliant strategists. why would they want to rally support around bush? they can see cnn/jazeera. they know bush is being slammed in the media and by dems. they also can see that our politicians, and media are more concerned with so called prisoner abuse than with americans being butchered. if i were osama, the LAST thing i would do is
hit america again before 02nov. again, if i were osama, i would see a kerry win as victory. just my opinion though

What would happen about the mall thing. It would be on TV for about 12 hours and then back to the round the clock coverage of prisioner mistreatment issues. This is the sad, pitying, soft, state of affairs we find ourselves in; trying to inflict another variety of collective guilty conscience on the American public rather than facing this is a savage enemy of a barberous cowardly nature.

Interesting about this warning, like so many others, is that they seemed to indicate the threat was upon us now...in the days just ahead.

The report I heard also tied the threat back to the stolen tanker truck from a few weeks ago.

Others we have heard have been less time-sensitive in addition to being more generic in their scope.

But if you think about it...we have now, and will continue to have, great vulnerability to such a crude weapon.

That stolen tanker truck happened in Southern NJ (where I reside), which is considered a part of the Philadelphia area and Beer just said that Philly looks like a possible target.

dont agree at all. they attacked spain because they wanted a terror friendly govt there, and they got one. they want bush out, simple as that.
there will be no attacks inside the united states.
and sure attacks happened under clinton, but that was when they were just getting started. the terrorists will be dancing in the streets 02nov if kerry is elected.

the terrorists are brilliant. on fox this morning they were saying arafat is saying not to make any attacks during the olympics. why? they dont want the world mad at them. right now, much of the world hates our guts, and many nations have been paid off by saddam, including the un. i said on another board a week ago there in no way be any attacks by islamic fascists at the olympics. what arafat said backs me up. they know how to play our media here perfectly.

The kids and I are flying soon, and I have my usual paranoid concerns...residue from the Sept. 11 attacks, no doubt. We fly June 29, I'm very thankful that flights on June 30th were booked, because that was my date of choice to return home. I know that I allow the terrorists to win, by being paranoid about flights, but I suppose its just how it is for me now...Another residual affect is that I now fly whereever the kids are going, with them, instead of allowing them to fly alone...theres that fear that if anything was to happen to their flight, and they were alone....ya know?

Yeah, if Kerry is elected, they'll not only be dancing in the streets (Nov. 3rd, more likely ), they'll be planning future attacks because they know he won't back any policy to stop them.

Yea I would expect backpack bombs to draw less attention then a jacket in summer. There are some crazy people out there and wear jackets all the time. We have one in our town here in Florida. I just saw him the other day as the temp was pushing 92. He is a older black man wearing blue jeans, shirt and grey/black medium jacket zipped 3/4 way up walking down the sidewalk.

Just stay alert people and if you see a crowd running away from something follow them. Also London has been mentioned as the first target then the US. So if you see an alert about London get somewhere safe. Philly is looking like a possible target.

I agree Beer. I have seen people wearing coats and Jackets in the summer. This year rest assure I will be a bit more suspicious when they do

The jury is out on the impact of a terror attack in this country BEFORE the election. On the one hand, Bush has shown his ability to rally the country in such situations. The days and weeks after 9/11 were his finest hour.

On the other hand, attacks here before election day would tend to embarrass the administration and the Department of Home Security and the claim could be made that Bush has not instituted valid protection for the common citizens at all.

I would say this, however, regardless of who wins the election, terrorists should not assume that a country run by a Democrat is no longer a country willing to fight terrorism.

As goes Iraq, I suspect, so goes the election. So the body count of our troops, the ability to show significant political and military gains, and the perception of the cards falling right for us, not terrorism, will precipitate a Bush victory.

It is going to be a very sad and angry few months.

Just so you know the tanker has to be a misprint. I am guessing it is only 9,200 gallons as most are in the 5,000 to 10,000 range. At 8 pounds per gallon the gasoline would weigh in at 736,000 pounds.
