Just WHY are these people being tried in Germany when the crime was committed here in the US?????

Excerpt from article:
Judge frees 9/11 suspect in Germany

HAMBURG, Germany, Dec. 11 — The trial of a Moroccan man accused of helping the Sept. 11, 2001, hijackers appeared close to collapse Thursday after the court announced that the German federal police had provided information, apparently taken from the interrogation of a top al Qaeda planner in U.S. custody, that the defendant had no advance knowledge of the plot.

That would make sense I guess. If he was caught in Germany, he has his trial there..

Robert Durst was caught in Pennsylvania. Yet the crime happened here in TX and he was sent back here to be tried in TX. I still don't get it.

In this case the crime was committed in Germany. He is accused of aiding the US terrorists from Germany. :-)

I have a feeling that they must have wanted to try him there instead of extraditing him to the US. If the crime occurs within the US and they catch them in another state, it is usually easy to extradite.
