DENTON, Texas -- A man who pleaded guilty to rape is still going to classes at the University of North Texas.
The 27-year-old student was convicted of rape in Oklahoma City. The judge said he will delay sentencing until mid-December, allowing him to continue classes at UNT, though there are many students on the campus who say they don't like that at all.
Citing privacy laws, school administrators will only say that there are procedures in place to handle the situation.
What bothers many on the campus is that no one -- including the university police -- knew a convicted rapist was on campus until they read the story in the school newspaper. But there is no way that school administrators could have known he was on campus and convicted of rape. They say he is not required to register as a sex offender in Oklahoma or Texas until his sentencing.
