FORT WORTH (Star-Telegram) - The company that collected recycling here since 1992 continued emptying recycling carts this week, despite being fired over the weekend and losing its insurance.
Resource Waste Services, which filed for Chapter 11 reorganization, had trucks on the streets as recently as Tuesday, officials said.
Officials with Waste Management -- the city-hired company that holds a 10-year garbage collection contract with Fort Worth and had subcontracted recycling to Resource Waste -- said they believed the trucks had stopped by Wednesday.
"Waste Management is picking up the recycling, and it's going very smoothly," said Lynda Rife, a spokeswoman for the company. "We expect the residents not to experience any changes in their service."
