Dixie Chicks to break with country scene...

#1 Postby southerngale » Mon Sep 22, 2003 5:27 pm

The Dixie Chicks say they don't want to be a country music band any more.

Violinist Martie Maguire told Spiegel magazine: "We don't feel part of the country scene any longer, it can't be our home any more."

She said she was disappointed other country singers didn't back up the Dixie Chicks in their criticism of George W Bush's politics on Iraq.

"A few weeks ago, Merle Haggard said a couple of nice words about us, but that was it," Maguire complained.

"The support we got came from others, like Bruce Springsteen."

Going home empty-handed from the Country Awards ceremony also made them decide to break with the scene, Maguire said.

"Instead, we won three Grammys against much stronger competition.

"So we now consider ourselves part of the big Rock 'n' Roll family."

Wah Wah Wah :P

They could say all they wanted to about George W. Bush and that was their right and I respected it. Now they say that they don't want to be country anymore -- that is fine. But they will no longer be apart of my cd collection. :grr:

They will never make it in the rock-n-roll industry. ;)

I agree with you.. I think they had every right to say what they did.. we do have freedom of speech.. BUT I disagree with what they said & think it was in poor taste.. I have not listened to a song of theirs since then & I wont..

Like I said in the "plane crash" thread, I never was a fan to begin with and I'm not now. The lead singer sounds too darned country to be anything but.

And if they're so concerned about getting support within the genre that they sing, have they checked out Kid Rock's response to them? They're going to get both sides no matter where they go -- country, rock, rap (shyeah, right).

It is ridiculous indeed. They weren't country because of their political views -- it was because of the GENRE of MUSIC they played. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. I guess they will be opening for Barbara Streisand... oh wait, she's not touring anymore.

THey were "empty handed" long before going home without any freakin' awards.

Perhaps there is a future for them in Adult Magazines.
