Dixie Chicks' plane down

#1 Postby GalvestonDuck » Fri Sep 19, 2003 11:54 am

I was out running errands at lunch and was listening to Rush. He broke from his current topic to announce that the Dixie Chicks' plane had gone down in Glasgow, Scotland. He had no further info yet.

Never was a fan before they said what they said and I'm not now. But I gotta admit, it could be tragic. Anyone have any further details yet? I'm searching now, but it just broke a few minutes ago. Might not be on news websites yet.

Regardless of anyone's political opinions and/or beliefs, something like that is always tragic. I certainly hope that it's not true.

Dixie Chicks aircraft in scare

An aircraft carrying the American country rock band the Dixie Chicks has been involved in an accident at Glasgow Airport.

A wing of the twin-engined jet carrying them from a concert in Dublin clipped an airport building while taxi-ing to its parking slot.

No-one was hurt in the incident, a spokeswoman for the band said.

The Dixie Chicks were due to play a sell-out concert at Glasgow's Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre.

The band's publicist, Barbara Charone, said: "The girls are all absolutely fine. I'm sure it wasn't pleasant.

"The incident happened when part of the wing just hit a corner of the building."

There were believed to have been 16 passengers and crew on board the aircraft.

The band - Emily Robison, Natalie Maines and Martie Maguire - have been one of the most successful touring country acts, grossing about $60m from concerts last year.

The group were involved in controversy earlier this year when Maines was critical comments of US President George Bush just days before the war in Iraq.

Some conservative country fans burnt their CDs and several radio stations refused to play their songs in protest.

I for one was never a fan of theirs and after Natalie Maines opened her big mouth....I thought even less of them BUT......I wouldn't wish anything bad on them. Glad their O'TAY.

They surely are talented young ladies, and I am glad they are ok.

Still...while I have the chance to say it...they've made some career decisions that in my opinion have kept them far short of superstardom. But then, that was their decision.

I am glad nobody was hurt. Too many musicians die in tragic plane, helicoptor or tour bus crashes.
