I am not sure. Heck, I don't understand who owns what as far as rights to the Beatles' catalogue. Here is the Wikipedia article talking about the song catalogue.

ETA: I think Apple music (not to be confused with the computer company), owns the rights to the original recordings. They are in the process of digitalizing the masters for release next year. Sony/Michael Jackson owns the publishing rights. So if you want to sing the Beatles' songs, you go through Sony/Michael Jackson. If you want to use an actual recording of the music, you go to Apple Music.

iTunes scores Led Zep 'digital box' exclusive
By Peter Cohen

Apple on Tuesday announced that iTunes Store users can order an exclusive “digital box set” containing Led Zeppelin’s entire discography. Entitled “The Complete Led Zeppelin,” it’s a 165-track collection of all 13 of the band’s albums, together for $99.

Included is the band’s new “Mothership” retrospective, a 24-track collection of Led Zeppelin’s best known songs, picked by Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones. That new collection is also available beginning Tuesday for pre-order.

“The Complete Led Zeppelin” and “Mothership” will both be released on Nov. 13.

iTunes Store customers who order either collection will automatically be entered to win a chance to see Led Zeppelin’s reunion performance at London’s O2 Arena on Nov. 26. The winner receives two tickets to the show, round-trip airfair and hotel accommodations.

"LONDON, March 8 (UPI) -- British singer Paul McCartney has reached a $400 million agreement with iTunes for the distribution of the Beatles' back catalog.

The former Beatles star, who is currently mired in a bitter divorce, officially sanctioned the Internet download service to offer the band's musical hits from albums such as "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," the Daily Mail said Saturday.

McCartney will not be the only one enjoying the profitable deal. Former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr will receive a portion of the profits, as will the families of late Beatles stars George Harrison and John Lennon.

Portions of the multimillion-dollar payout also will go to pop singer Michael Jackson, along with the EMI and Sony recording groups, who each own certain Beatles recording or publishing rights.

The Daily Mail said the deal could directly impact McCartney's ongoing divorce from Heather Mills as the former model may increase her settlement request to include a portion of the singer's newfound fortune."

while looking for information on the announcement date for the mythical "iTablet" from Apple. . . I came across some news about the re-mastered Beatle albums. . .

The re-mastered albums are coming on September 9 and there was a story saying that they would go online after this work had been done.
(which by coincidence is 09/09/09 and the day of the announcement of new iPod line-up) . . .

not sure whether this will be an iTunes exclusive or will be available for download at Amazon too.. . .
