Kayak info

My wife and I would like to get a set of kayaks. Summers are boring around here. We are hoping to spend no more than $500 for each but will go a bit higher if neccessary. We can't really afford them but you only live once, right? Anyone have one of these or have anything different. It will mainly be used for flatwater kayaking.
