Ugh

#1 Postby Andrew92 » Thu Aug 02, 2007 12:03 am

If what happened to me today happens to you ever, you will agree that sometimes, technology just SUCKS.

So I have a big project due tomorrow and I'm working on it with a friend. We divided the work and I did my half of it. So far so good. Well then, today, when I was polishing and proofreading, IT happened.

The computer literally ate up about half of my work. I had to due three segments of the project. Half of one of them is gone, a complete one is gone, but there is one that remains intact. In addition, I had to do a PowerPoint presentation and the gosh-darn thing WOULDN'T SAVE! I had to literally copy the material from the slides and paste them into an e-mail to my partner! :grr: :grr: :grr:

Has something like this ever happened to you? Especially right before the big project is due and it's pretty much done? Feel free to rant about your stories like this.

One last thought:

Technology SUCKS. And that's tame compared to some of the words I have been saying to myself and my partner. :grr:

On the "bright side" Andrew, at least it's a better excuse than "the dog ate my homework!" :D

Sounds like "Murphy's Law" just picked a horrible time to screw with you! :grr:

You have my most sincere condolences, even if that doesn't help fix anything. :(

Nope, it's not in the good ol' temp folder. See, what happened is I saved my files, and then when I loaded them up to fix them, they worked fine for a while. When I finally got done with one part, it said that there was "no more room to save the file" and then I lost EVERYTHING in the file but the name is still there! This happened with half of the other part that was lost. This is probably because I was doing the work on a school computer. I deleted some files and it still gave me the nonsense that my work couldn't be saved!

Therefore, I am stuck with re-doing that whole part which I spent hours on and half of the other part! It's just plain terrible! I'm also going to probably do it on my partner's computer so I don't lose my work again.

I don't wish this on ANYBODY.

My laptop decided it would start freezing on me, or running this program and not another. It makes it pretty difficult to save anything or even add an attachment to an e-mail, forget about trying to surf the 'net. I tried everything I could think of, but nothing seems to really help. I bought another laptop last week and wouldn't you know it....this laptop decides to get with the program.

Well, this is old-timey technology here, but ...

Back in my Junior year at University of Miami (1984) I took a compiler construction course, and I did my term project on the Univac 1170 mainframe the school had at that time. Anyway, about a week before the end of the term the Univac crashed. They brought it back up, then it crashed again. We went through that cycle five times and each time they brought it back with an older backup.

I wound up re-writing about half of that projects four times over in the last week of the term. :grr:
