If we had a sensible immigration policy, there wouldn't be millions of illegal immigrants to give amnesty to after the fact. The flow of illegal immigrants across the borders would slow to a trickle and we'd have a pretty good idea of who's here in the country. But that just makes too much sense.

It's a simple fact that desperate people will find a way to get here. Building walls, setting guards, and turning the US into a prison won't stop that. If you instead recognize that fact and allow those who want to come here to work to do so legally and easily, all of the problems of illegal immigration would go away overnight. People who are here legally can't be intimidated by threat of deportation into working for sub-minimum wage jobs. They also wouldn't risk their lives pouring acorss the desert. That would leave only the true undesirables sneaking across, and the numbers would be manageable, allowing the border patrol to do its job in preventing those fewer illegal crossings.
