Just call me Mr. auto repairman

#1 Postby x-y-no » Sat Jun 16, 2007 7:41 pm

So the harmonic balancer on my Mustang broke Thursday. After hunting around most of yesterday to find a place that had the replacement in stock, I set about doing it today. Had a devil of a time getting the old one off ... first just getting the bolt loose (was in a panic about it maybe being reverse-threaded on top of everything) then pulling the old piece. Got it done finally though, and I'm running again. :-) (And as long as I was under there, I did an oil change too)

OK, you real mechanics out there won't be impressed, but for a guy who's pretty much only done oil and belt changes in the past I'm pretty pleased with myself ... :-)

Sounds like we could have used your help with the replacement of the radiator on my future son-in-laws car last Sunday!!! Those reverse threaded problems can ruin a whole day!! Good thing it wasn't!!

HAHAHAHA..........just kidding. Well now you know how to do it! In the service department at the dealership I work at, a car was towed in because the guy put the balancer back on but didnt tighten the bolt. So i had to fix it for him. I had to put a axle in and all new belts and some power steering lines in.........it came off and ripped everything up. Props to ya! :D

Did you run into any 10mm bolts? You can SAE cheat on just about anything else, but those 10mm's will getcha every time.

Pretty sure my last car weighed ten pounds less than it did when I bought it from all the bolts that wouldn't fit back where they were supposed to go. Nope, not giving up my day job to be a mechanic anytime soon. :D

lol its the thing that goes onto the front of the crankshaft and acts as a balancer. It also turns all of your belts, includint the timing belt/chain.
