Actually the more common non poisonous snakes in the area the less likely of having a poisonous on around...They are usually Territorial and the other snakes will eat most of the food in a area...Also if the black snack you are referring to maybe a Indigo snake which would eat all the other snakes as well as the bad ones.. Athough I don't know if they get that far north...
