Be sure to click on the link, to see several photo's of this sweet dog. What a terrible thing to do, even if a coyote. Why would you shoot a coyote unless it was threatening you? This dog is very gentle apparently, look at the last picture sleeping with the owner's young child. What a sad story but luckily, with a good outcome. Looks like the dog will be okay.

A family pet, possibly mistaken for a wild coyote, is recovering after being shot in the face at close range.

"Tacoma," a Shepherd/Husky mix, was found wounded on Dry Ridge Road in Colerain Township Friday.

Vets at the Colerain Animal Clinic had to remove buck shot from the dog's face.

The dog's owners think the person who shot their dog may have thought it was a coyote.

"They've been trying to legalize shooting coyotes," said Jeff Dressing, the dog's owner.

"This is a perfect example why they shouldn't," said Dressing, "because they could easily mistake a house pet to be a coyote.

Although the dog had gotten loose it was wearing a collar when he was shot.

Tacoma's owners say their dog is very gentle and would not have hurt or threatened anyone

Actually the pictures are not that bad. He'll make it from everything I've heard. The Vet seems to be petting him on the belly or maybe just checking his heart but seriously, you have to see that last picture. The family couldn't have found a previously taken picture to illustrate how sweet natured this dog is.

I don't understand why anyone would want to shot a dog anyway. I sure hope it was a mistake, but you never know. He sure looks like a sweetie ecspecially in that last photo. Like I said I am happy he is gonna pull through.

Me too. When I saw the link, just the caption, I didn't want to go to it. Then our local newsite pulled it up so you could see his picture, before clicking on local links. It looked like he was going to pull thru, so I had to read it then. Like Stephanie it broke my heart and I almost didn't have the heart to open it. That poor dog. Makes you wonder if he'll have traumatic memories from this. I hope not.

I could not bring myself to open the link. I am a huge animal lover especially dogs. And everytime I hear of someone being cruel or neglecting a animal in any way, I get so upset. And will start crying and won't be able to get myself to stop.

I feel the same exact way. And I'd never post links with disturbing pictures. This is tragic story but with a good outcome. Trust me, the pictures are not what you think they are.

Sorry to have upset you all. I found it a real miracle they could save this pet!

sometimes it can SUC*...wait - did I say that?
Truly, nothing grossly graphic here folks - just a sweet
face of a lovable pooch, and, it's story of tribulation.

And, any pooch lover can't help but feel for this pooch.

Thanks Annette. We read all the time about horrible abuse cases, involving children, spouses, pets, wildlife, etc.

This was one story that has a good outcome.

Sure wish they'd catch whoever did this terrible act though......made me hug my dog all day long just about.

Awe, I love the picture of him sleeping with the little girl. I hope he pulls thru. He really does look like a coyote. I think I'd buy him a big bright red collar with a bell on it.

Poor thing. I still don't get it. This dog was shot, but isn't aggressive. He does look like a coyote, but to shoot him without provocation - it seems harsh. Anyhow, he looks like a sweet dog and I'm glad to see it looks like he'll be okay.

My dog runs the neighborhood, on occasion, and I
often wonder if I should put a collar on her that says,
"I don't bite: but, get close enough, and, I'll lick your face
off!"
