Attempted Abduction Suspect Confesses To Robbery Attempt
Vienna Man Accused Of Trying To Abduct 2 Girls

POSTED: 6:50 am EDT October 3, 2005
UPDATED: 6:38 pm EDT October 3, 2005

VIENNA, Va. -- A man accused of trying to abduct two 10-year-old girls from their bedroom in Vienna is being held without bond, and police said he knew his alleged victims.

Police said an abduction took place at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday at a house in the 1000 block of Moorefield Hill Grove.

"Our theory is that he was there to probably abduct the children at this point, and yes, he did grab the children in an attempt to control them," said Capt. Michael Miller, of the Vienna Police Department.

Investigators said the girl's parents were awakened by the commotion in their children's bedroom and when they went to find out what was going on, they found a masked man trying to take their kids.

"The children awakened their parents by screaming. The mother and father both went in and a struggle ensued between both parents and the suspect," Miller said. "The suspect was able to get away from them and flee out the rear basement sliding glass door."

Sunday afternoon, police arrested Andrew Jacobs, 42, of Vienna, and charged him with burglary, two counts of abduction and four counts of assault.

He is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Jacobs was denied bond after a brief court appearance. He told the judge, "I am not a flight risk. I am an upstanding citizen." He also told police he smoked pot 20 minutes before he arrived at the home.

Court records show Jacobs planned to tie the girls up. One of the girls woke up when a gag was placed in her mouth.

According to court records, Jacobs confessed to breaking into the home. He said he wanted to take money, jewelry and VCRs. He also said he wanted to gag the girls to keep them quiet during the robbery.

Investigators said Jacobs taught the girls tae kwon doe at Mt. Kim martial arts studio in Vienna. Jacobs had been at the studio as an instructor and a student on and off for 20 years. Police said the girls used the skills Jacobs taught them to fight him off.

Authorities say Jacobs received a black eye and a gash between his eyes when the girls, and then the parents, fought back.  The parents hit the attacker with a lamp, police said. According to authorities, the girls also managed to partially pull off a mask the attacker was wearing.

The girls' parents recognized the man's facial features and voice.

Investigators said they believe Jacobs was acting alone.

Serves him right. The girls obviously learned more from him than he knew about responsible actions and directed attack. What a punk.

If...and this is a really big if...if I were looking for something to swipe and sell quickly, I'd go for the iPod, a laptop, etc...but no, this loser goes for some VCRs...

I didn't realize until I read the article, but I haven't used a VCR in years...

Wow passed right over the VCR part. Maybe he was looking to pay people to take the VCRs from him? I mean he was on pot at the time.
