Got a new (used) car!

#1 Postby Skywatch_NC » Sat Oct 01, 2005 8:14 am

Yesterday afternoon in north Raleigh I bought a real nice black 2000 Toyota Camry LE! :D

Retired my 1990 metallic blue Olds Ciera after having it for 16 years...feels kinda weird not having an Olds in the family anymore...my Dad sold our other 1989 black Olds Ciera last year to a friend of his. My paternal grandfather had worked for Delco Remy (GM) in Anderson, IN and so my Dad got a special deal in buying our Oldses when we lived in Roanoke Rapids, NC. It's something how having a car for so long you become really sentimental about it.

But this Camry and BTW it's the first import that's ever been in our family...I was told by some peeps that Camrys sell fast down here and I'm very grateful that I bought it when I did because later after taking the Olds to the place where I bought the Camry...anyway, we were told that a couple from VA had called and shown interest in the same car that my folks and I had our eyes on!

The Camry runs very well...although the gas cap...it's funny...there's a gas cap release handle right near the trunk release handle in these Camrys but the coil spring is worn out so for one to fill up there needs to be another person in the short-term to manipulate the gas cap release handle while the other person then opens the gas tank cap...kinda hard to explain...but not surprising since the car is 5 yrs-old. Will be taking the car to a mechanic that the dealers know and work with and will have a new coil spring put in later next week!

I've always heard Camry's are a good resale value. Same with Honda's. Sounds like you found a good car Eric!

I've stopped joking about my Civic's small engine these days. I have renewed appreciation for my MPG (33, city) and I imagine you'll notice a sayings also, at the gas pumps.

Our next door neighbors have always had several Camry's in their family. The oldest one is now passed on down to their 20 yr old daughter. It has over 150K on it, I know. It's still running.

Enjoy your 'new' car!

Congrats on the "new" car. I know what you mean about it feeling funny after so many years. I have the same feeling here. Sold my car 2 weeks ago. It was the only car I've ever owned. Instead of buying a "new" car though, I get to learn to drive my husband's truck. I'ts a stick. UGH!! We decided there is no reason to pay insurance on two pesonal cars when he gets a company van that they allow him to use for personal miles. We may, however, have to rethink all this logic when I figure out the MPG on the truck! (I was told gas went up here 15 cents last night because of a new tax?!!)

HAVE FUN and ENJOY!!!!

Sounds like you got your money's worth out of the Olds, Eric. Congrats on the new ride. (If the ride's more fly, you must buy)

Congrats on the car, Eric! I always buy "pre-owned", now - let some
other sucker drive it off the lot new and depreciate the value, so that I can
buy it good for a cheaper price!

I have an old acquantaince who drives a Camry, and, loves the car!

Enjoy!

Annette, :)

It's hilarious in trying to re-train the brain with a car like a Camry after 16 years of driving an Olds Ciera. Today while on some errands with my Dad and driving my new one for the first time and to really get a feel for it...2 or 3 times when changing gears...anyway, as you probably know if you've ever ridden in a Camry or have looked over your old acquaintance's car THAT the gearshift is on the floor instead of right near the steering wheel...had to turn off those windshield wipers a few times this afternoon! :dont:

LOL, I hate changing cars like that! Wait til you go from a 5-speed
in the floor to an automatic in the steering column and see how THAT
messes you up in traffic!

On Friday evening my folks and I heading back from the dealer's...we stopped at a gas station and after filling up...somehow one of my fingers pressed a button on the other side of the Unlock/Lock panel of the key ring and it set the car horn off while we were still parked at the pump island!!  :roflmao:

McFly...McFly...*knock knock*...anybody home?! :roflmao:

:hehe:

You'll get it in no time, Eric - just be able to laugh at yourself!
That's what makes it fun!
