Lynndie England Convicted On Abu Ghraib Charges

POSTED: 3:30 pm EDT September 26, 2005
UPDATED: 4:00 pm EDT September 26, 2005

FORT HOOD, Texas -- The Army private who became the face of the Abu Ghraib prison scandal has been convicted on six counts in connection with prisoner abuse.

Pfc. Lynndie England, 22, has been found guilty of conspiracy, maltreating detainees and committing an indecent act. She was acquitted on a second conspiracy count.

The Fort Hood military jury of five male officers reached the verdict in a little more than two hours. Her case now moves into the sentencing phase. She faces up to 10 years in prison.

England's trial is the last for a group of nine Army reservists charged with mistreating prisoners at the Baghdad prison.

All I can say is "HoooRah!" It's ABOUT time.....she was such an arrogant, self serving person, however, her final sentence of "3 YEARS" wasn't enough IMHO!

It's the right verdict, in my opinion, though I think the 3 years is a little bit too lenient. I don't remember them mentioning in the news about reduction of rank, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and dishonorable discharge, which in my opinion, should be in the sentence in addition to the prison time.

The court granted a dishonorable discharge also.

She doesn't deserve to wear that uniform, IMO. At least someone finally wiped that stupid grin off her face.

Good, she deserved it, I agree she doesn't deserve to wear the uniform, or receive vet benefits, or any other honor associated with the armed services. Her behaviour reflected poorly on the United States, as well as our armed services.
