Steve, that is so very dangerous. I'm glad you're having a talk with him.

Steve,

It's great that you'll be having a talk with him about that. Also, do you have any siblings in north-central IL to look in on him?

My paternal grandfather in central IN is 91 yrs-old.

Thanks for your concern about my 90-year-old father. You need to understand this guy. Two years ago he was throwing around 4 x 8 sheets of plywood on the roof by himself and was scolded for that. Like having a kid all over again, but how neat that he is still able to do so much! He played 100 rounds of golf this summer and refused to ride a cart!

That being said, yes my nephew is renting from him next door and my sister looks in on him. In addition, my step mother is around and they look after each other. Still...there are lots of things that can go wrong when you decide to use a gas oven for heat.

When I talked to him about that last year, he went out and bought an electric floor heater...and they can be just as dangerous. So this year, the plan is to tell him we will kick in and help when the gas bill gets over a certain amount...and that with that he can be safe AND comfortable.

He'll be out here in Arizona in a couple of weeks to visit. That's when we have the conversation.

Of course, he has selective hearing and will only hear what he wants to.
