"HAPPY AUTUMN!"

#1 Postby azsnowman » Thu Sep 22, 2005 7:36 am

With all that's going on in the world, the Gulf Coast right now, I feel guilty for making ANY POSTS with the word "HAPPY" in it but......it's the first day of Autumn and with the current temps as they are, it feels like the first day of summer all over again......I cannot BELIEVE it's fall already, what happened to SUMMER?

Hi Dennis. Summer is very much alive here at the bottom of your hill in Phoenix. Morning lows around 80 the last three days.

Unlike you, we don't really talk about the change of seasons until about Halloween when we can actually notice a marked difference in conditions.

Hurricane Rita won't likely affect us at all with any rains. The southwest flow aloft will keep her moisture east of us, but perhaps she'll help draw down a fall-like chill for you in the mountains and give us some early hopeful signs of chill as well.

Happy autumn to you as well!

Dennis -

For me, I think it's a good thing to have some "happy" injected into the world right now. I still remember wondering how David Letterman and those guys would be able to do their shows after 9-11, but when they did, it really helped to break up the tears with some smiles.

Anyhow, I love fall. But here it is going to be in the low 90s all week, so it still feels like summer!! Where you live, it must be just as hot, right? Anyhow, I put up my fall screensaver last night - nothing but beautiful leaves - the best part is that I don't have to rake these kind!

I remember Letterman's show after 9-11. I cried, he was so sincere. I also remember the writers of Friends saying they didn't know which direction to go at first, do they acknowledge the trade towers and what a horrific day 9-11 was, b/c their show was set in NYC? Then they realized fans needed an escape, something familiar to return to. So they chose not to mention and continue on. I've read articles that said all 6 actors needed to do this, to give fans a chance to laugh again. I am glad they chose to push on and add small tributes in the background (Joey's magnadoodle weekly messages, etc.).

I know it's technically Autumn but will someone tell that to the wx-gods? LOL Our A/C is chugging right along, along with high gas and electric bills. Keep hearing how cooler temsp are coming but I will only believe it when I feel it. Still wearing shorts and it's almost October! What a very hot and dry summer this was for the record books, in the Ohio Valley. I normally love Fall but I can't wait for cooler days. And shoveling snow - honest! But that's hopefully a ways off. Although several Octobers we had fluke snowfalls, measurable at that! Two in the past 16 years....we built a snowman for trick or treating one year, and put a scary mask on him. Hanging McDonald's McBoo orange candy buckets off his stick arms. So cold wx could come slamming into this region. Ya never know.....

Although Christmas is my favorite holday, I love the holidays that come in the fall season. Halloween is around the corner and then Thanksgiving already! Time really flies. We always try to find a hayride at a pumpkin farm this time of year. Followed by caramel apples!! I don't think we will have any snowman scarecrows where we live, but, hopefully you won't either until a few weeks after!

It's a LITTLE early for the snow to fly just yet......our first snowfall happens ALMOST EVERY SINGLE Halloween. Used to be a pain in the rear when the kids were growing up, you'd get this COOL costume, get 'em ALL dressed up and have to wear a coat OVER the costume!

Funny you should say that. Here in Florida it's the same as far as the first cool day of season seems to be on Halloween almost always, not snow but actually feels like fall. But opposite as far as the clothing. Even though its our first cool day, that is exactley what it is cool, not cold. So my kids get these cool costumes which usually are long sleeved and pants, or a cape on top, ect... and then after walking a mile or 2 they become hot and are ready to peel them off.
